KT gun barrel & turret rotation
KT gun barrel & turret rotation
When building my KT, I followed the instruction manual to the letter and double checked everything before moving on to the next step. Also when doing the gun barrel mounting and recoil unit.
As you can see on the pic the gun barrel of my KT is hanging. I can use my finger to push the gun barrel up to about a horisontal position, but when I let go of the gun barrel, it drops again.
What could be the cause of this? Does it have to do with the spring or is there another cause?
Is this a problem that will cure itself when the KT starts running or does it have to be delt with?
Cheers, Jens

Re: KT gun barrel hanging - is that normal?
Have you tried manually rotating the elevation unit? Open up the turret and move the arm until the gun should be in an up posistion. If it's still drooping then, there may be a problem with the clutch gear in the elevation unit.
Did you include the spring between the roof of the turret and the barrel? It's marked on the picture. This should help keep it up.

Cheers,
Rik

Hi Rik,
thanks, I'll try it out during the weekend, when I have some building time on the KT pre-planned.

Hi Rik,
tried to move the cogwheels, gut it seems that I need the gun eleveation motor to do that...
But I'm gonna buy some rc equipment at the end of the month anyway, so maybe the problem will fix itself then.
Thanks for you help.

Re: KT gun barrel hanging - is that normal?
Just an update...
Got the rc equipment yesterday (in used condition, but still working, and that's what's important!) and it cured the problem of the hanging KT gun barrel. The dry run yesterday without tracks also confirmed that all of the electronics are installed correctly.
Thanks for all of the answers!

Hi Jens,
Glad it's all sorted now! Don't you love the sound of that Maybach starting up!
I look forward to seeing more of yout KT build.
Cheers,
Rik

Re: KT gun barrel & turret rotation
Modified the thread title a little since I didn't want to start another thread.
Yesterday I took my KT for its very first test drive outside and everything went very well, except for the turret rotation - it didn't want to rotate to the left without "sticking in place", rotation to the right however was no problem. Today I tried to cure the problem, but didn't manage it completely. I thought it could depend on the following problems:
Was it the turret rotation motor? No, it rotates without any problems at all both to the right and to the left.
Was there a cable in the way? No, I've excludet that problem by binding all of the cables from the turret with cable binders.
Was something sticking out from the cable binders? No, every cable binder with parts sticking out, had the part sticking out cut away.
Was the gun motor in the way? No, the gun motor is enclosed within the turret itself.
Has the turret been rotated more than 360 degrees? No, at the very most, I've rotated the turret 270-280 degrees, but never 360+.
Has anyone got any idea as to what the problem could be?
Cheers, Jens

Re: KT gun barrel & turret rotation
Does the turret stick at about the 4 or 5 o"clock position?
Re: KT gun barrel & turret rotation
Hi Nibelungenwerk,
got to charge the battery and take her out for a spin again soon, but if I renember it correctly, the tower got stick in the 8, 6 and 4 o'clock position. However, I don't renember how she behaved after I've tried to fix the problem. I'll do a more extensive turret rotation test tomorrow.
Cheers, Jens
Edit: Tested my KT this morning (Saturday) and with the battery fully charged over night, the turret got stuck in about the 8 o'clock position. However, this time it was only for a brief moment or so, nothing serious.
Could the problem have been the battery? Any Idea?

Re: KT gun barrel & turret rotation
Took her out for a spin yesterday, this time on more uneven terrain, and it seem that the problems with the turret rotaion starts when the battery starts running low (I still use the Heng Long batteries, since they are available and I don't have the time to buy better ones at the moment).
Or parhaps, when these problems start, maybe the solution is to simply let the DMD-unit "rest" a little?
Thanks for all of the advise!
