Hi Folks,
Ok I've got 2 smoke units here and both of the elements are burnt looking in a few spots,
Neither of them make smoke and Ive heard a few of you guys saying about repairing these units,
So Please Please could someone tell me how to make a new element for the smoker, what materials I will need and if possible include some pic's
Any help greatly appreciated

Hi pete
you need Blake saxondog for that
burning marks on the insulater is quite common
if its just a direct swap out then youll need some ceramic filament wire like youd find in a toaster
but first have you removed some of the wadding?
as this helps to produce smoke
sometimes too much oil can give the effect of a duff unit

Hello Pete and welcome to the forum, and thanks Rob for noticing my smoker work. Pete I am involved with a unit that is sold here in the states by RCCOMMAND. I will be glad to show you how to make an element that will last a very long time if you prefer that path? We use kevlar as a wick material and ceramic wire wound resistors in the Super Smokers. These were designed to work in Tanks of many different scales, trucks, ships, and even aircraft as they are of a no leak design and even upside down will not leak fluid. The other issue is the fluid,it is fog fluid. Very easy to clean and does not damage the wick. Here is a link to the smokers for sale and check it out, then we can go forward from their. cheers Blake

No problem Pete, these are pictures from a fan modified smoker, this was the common solution for many. The fan in this picture fits the frame of the smoker well but the round intake section needs to be cut back so air can blow more direct into the round air intake, the fan can be driven by the stock printed circuit board just remove the pump motor and attach those wires to the fan make sure of fan direction.Blake

2) what ampage is it ?
Besides this with saxondog's help ive found plenty of other info on these units, the only problem is even though i can build the rest of it i dont want to put the wrong size wire in for the element and have my RX18s smoking insted of the smoke unit LOL

I will give you the proper Resistor to use not plain gage wire. Also Kevlar is the best material for the wick, fog fluid instead of vegetable oil. VITREOUS Enamel wire wound resistor 8.20 0HM,5.25 WATT HEAT RESISTANT (OH-MITE BROWN DEVIL SERIES-200)
(B5JBR2E) This type of resistors were found by my friend who has asked to remain anonymous.he did all the testing and produced the finale product.
Bottom line is if you can purchase a resistor that is within the stated range you can wire it directly to the stock leads but the key is to wrap the wick material around the resistor, remove the cotton, place a thin layer of fiberglass in the tank with the end of the wick laying in the bottom covered by the fiberglass.
This retains fluid and keeps the wick wet enough to smoke very well. 'The kevlar is much stronger than cotton fiber and will last.Hope this helps.AN CERAMIC WIRE WOUND RESISTOR IN THE RANGE STATED WILL OUT LAST THE STOCK ELEMENT,These cost very little so try several until you find what works best,we completely dumped the H/L UNITS. cheers Blake
