Sherman Tail Lights

Hi guys, I need some advice from the people who know more about Allied tanks than me.

Tamiya show that there should be 4 clear red stipes painted on the rear tail lights;

I'm just wondering if this was a Tamiya quirk, or are they similar to the German convoy lights? In essence, where those stripes on the real tanks?
