M5 Stuart with el-mod

Post by jrc »

Has anybody tried el-mod boards in the 1/6 Stuart?
The el-mod will run at 12v and supposedly provide 20a, it looks possible but I'd hate to fry my el-mod
The Stuart RC is terrible and not proprtional so I'd like to change it if possible, so what do you guys think?

Thanks Pete. It's only because I have el-mod that I thought of trying it, my Tamiya boards are Tiger so it's the wrong sounds. Although I did run it for a spell with HL boards before getting the proper Stuart boards. I hate the on/off drive they give, too jerky.

Tamiya units can be fitted to a stuart if you fit fans to the boards so they dont fry (tam boards can take 12v when cooled)

however im doubtfull as to elmod being able to support it.

cheers,

hi Matt

the spec sheet says it runs 7-12v so it should be ok, I'm just twitched about frying them if the power is too much.
It looks like one of my daft ideas I'll not try.

At V3 they integrated the Booster circuitry into the basic Thinktank module - so unless you have really big motors (and I'm guessing the Stuart doesn't have anything exotic) you should be ok.
The booster was designed for very heavy tanks.

the stuart i would assume is beyond a very heavy 1/16,

go for it if you thinks its fine, but im hesitent to run my 1/16 el-mod tank incase it breaks, not that it will actually start up atall at the moment :P

I know what you mean Matt. I've got a King Tiger and a JagdTiger with el-mods and they're great. Loads more power than HL rx-18 and better sounds than Tamiya.
I just think the Stuart 1/6 scale may be a bit much, but I hate the crappy on/off drive it has.

Hi Why not send El-mod an e-mail and ask them (better to be safe than sorry)tell them the type of motors standard or uprated ,tracks if metal ones are fitted,if it is a standard one tell them .Im sure they will know the settings for it if its posible ,also tell them which el-mod you have.
This should take the guess work out they will say yes or no.
