Yet another new recuirt.......
Hi all,
My name is Andy, living in South Wales - very wet behind the sprockets when it comes to r/c tanks...
Reason for taking this path? .....Fun!!
I have recently dusted off my 1/25 Tamiya Tiger 1 - quite literaly its been on top of the wardrobe for 20 odd years - and it has rekindled my old interests. I now have to decide which way to go - its the old Heng Long V Tamiya debate again I am afriaid.
I guess like any other hobby it all depends how deep your pockets are as to what level you end up at.
Plea in advance ... If I end up asking really dumb questions please treat me gently after you have wipped away any tears of mirth!!
Planned model - it has to be a Tiger 1 - I idealy would like to build and run a later version with the swivel commanders hatch and later mod wheels. I have a couple of Oesprey books on the Tiger, one on the tank and one on moddeling it.
On a slightly more off the wall note I have a German helmet shell from italy covered in Zimmeret and with traces of the green and brown paint - odds on the orginal owner was a Panzergrenadier.

Welcome to the forum Andy, dont worry about asking stupid questions, we have all done that
As for what to get Tamiya or Heng Long its your choice, i say if you have the cash go for the Tamiya, the sounds and electrics are much better, the Heng Long is also a great tank tho, and has plenty of after market parts available for it, i suggest you have a good look around the forum and have a look at what others have done with their Tamiya and Heng Long tanks and see if you can make your mind up

Hello Andy, welcome to the forum.Really their are not dumb questions, the dumb thing is not to ask and then ruin something due to lack of knowledge.I ask question often and learn something new often,So just join in and between the skilled labor and the shade tree tankers it will all work out.Cheers Blake

Hi Andy nice to see another tanker from Wales. Welcome to the forum. I'm in the process of converting my Tamiya Tiger 1 to a late model and it's a lot nof work but well worth it ( I hope so for my sake as I will be posting the finished result on the forum and the rest
of the guy's will have the final say lol ). Any questions on Tamiya versus HL feel free to ask. All the best for now

Hi Andy welcome to the forum it all depends how much you want to spend you can get a hl tiger with elmod and all the metal upgrades for the price of a tam and its probably a better tank good luck.

Andy,
Welcome to the forum, like the others have said it’s the question you don't ask that are stupid.
Also nice to know that there is a growing group of tankies here in Wales. I have today began my build of a Tamiya Leo 2A6 having not done any modelling for a long time. It’s really addictive. I’ll See how things go with the Leo, and I too might invest in a Tiger or a Panther G. Happy building.

welcome to the Forum Andy, HL or Tamiya that is the question
My first tank as an HL tiger and I broke the tracks within five minutes of getting it so replaced them with metal ones and then did upgrade after upgrade and I have lost count of how much it has cost me to modify my HL tiger but it is fun and adictive at the same time

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, there is a lot of depth in your posts to alter and improve the old tiger.
I know it was created as a heavy assault tank - it appears that this role can easily carry on with an assault on your bank balance as well !!
Now I have a couple of questions - which is the best plastic glue to use ?
Which is the best glue for joining metal to metal - metal to plastic ?
Is it practible to use a Tamiya turret on a Heng Long body ?
Sorry - that was three questions !
Judging by the quality of your tanks out there I will need to raise my game !!
