Just got this off Ebay, fully fitted with all electronics, tx etc. GRP hull. Needs a bit of tidying and fine detail, plus an electronic speed controller to replace the mechanical one. Something to keep me occupied!
£100 and a drive to Taunton this evening and it is now sat on my kitchen worktop.
Its the 37" version, as you may know, they do two. You can get the 42" in wood or GRP, or the 37" in either too. I wanted a GRP due to the weight (this one is heavy enough!). Someone has spent money on loads of figures, a highly detailed rear gun etc, so the basis for a good makeover is there. It just needs a going over with a dremel and some new paint, and some styrene detailing, and it should be a nice little runner. I need to find a similar quality gun for the front, someone has made an excellent wooden one, but it would be good to have a quality item on there.
I may start picking brains on here, especially regarding an ESC? I have no idea what to go for, it has a rather large motor in there. I can run it off my 2.4ghz radio, all I need to do is junk what is fitted and install a receiver. That way I get 5 channels and I can get moving/firing guns etc...and then of course I could always think about a sound card....£££££££!!
If I get adventurous I may go for a twin screw conversion. I could have bought the kit, but as its my first boat I wasn't feeling that brave. The problem with boats and Ebay is that they are all 'buyer collect', so as this one appeared and wasn't too far away I emailed him and asked if he would accept an offer, which he did.
He also has a Tamiya Sherman, and has been to this forum!
Hi you need to try the boat under load to find the amps for the esc size, if you dont you will blow it straight away, good look
with it ,had a few of these.
Now discovered that the torpedo's and carriers are made by Nautical Marine Models in Lancs, who also supply all the other 1/32 scale detailing accessories for these. Started pulling things apart already, the kit built bits have not been put together very well, so I will re-do those. The paint is not up to much, it all needs sanding down and spraying, and I am looking to turn it into a nice display model as well as a decent RC boat.
Very nice Rob , good luck and great to see you today and thanks for the battling...
catch you soon on skype ...................
Fleshy..............................
Good to see you as well Fleshy, I must see if I can increase the range on the Tiger! Your new project is coming along nicely, go easy on the hinges. lol.
The MTB is now totally stripped down. Removed everything back to the bare buil up kit of hull and superstructure. Spending hours with filler and sanding so that it will look more presentable. I can't figure out why someone would go to all the bother of actually doing a great job on constructing it (it has been well put together), and then slap a load of lumpy paint on it that ruins all that hard work.
Got the styrene on order, so will build all of the ammunition chests, hatches etc. Might have to buy the front and rear guns as there are no Bofors plans anywhere???
Hi Wibbly, nice find m8, if its the 37" jobby its 1/24th scale, there is a bofors gun kit, Im not sure but it could be Deans Marine, had one of these, but it got shelved for a while then the bow got a warp in it, (was the wooden hull ), will check out to see if the gun is from deanes if your still after one, there are also quite a few fittings packs available for the Perkasa too.
Funny but was looking for this MTB only the other day as I was pondering about getting the GRP 49" jobby.
