Slowest KV-1 build in history!

Post by Theibault »

Ok, work on the kit is not progressing at all! My real job is taking all my time and my heart breaks everday when I get home seeing the kit on the table, but the dog and sleep call. The only thing I've had time to do is build a 1/35th KV-1 as a painting test bed. I'm trying new techniques I've never used and the pic is just one of 5 styles I've tried. Still not sure how I'll paint the 1/16th tank.

PS, I've read the forums and seem many opinions on painting. Build first then paint or paint as you go? I'd love some feedback on this. Also, hope the images aren't too big as I'm not uploading to the site. If they are, let me know and I'll post smaller ones from now on. Thanks!

it must be a heart wrench seeing a tamiya kit and not being able to start it, i tend to build then paint with the exeption of the metal bits which i red oxide as i go
all the best

Hello,

Very nice start on the 1/35 KV.

Check the 2 sites below for painting, weathering and finish tips from two master modelers, also working in 1/16 scale:

http://migjimenez.blogspot.com/search/l ... th%20scale" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And under "Projects":

http://www.robert-doepp.de/en/imprint/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These sites are favorite places to go and study for ideas, while I work on my models.

Ok, so finally got a little time to work on the Russian beast. Just as I was cruising along, I ran out of primer. :/ Was hoping to have the lower hull primed and painted but sometimes, you forget that previous projects used up precious primer. Also, with it being Easter, can't pop down to the lhs and get more. Hopefully tomorrow night will see some more work done.

Ok, slowly starting to resemble a tank. I'm pretty sure they built real ones quicker than this in Chelyabinsk.

Treads make all the difference in the world in terms of how cool something looks.

Well, work has kept me away from the tank, but at long last I have a spare afternoon. Electronics will be installed and work on the top half will begin. I'll post some pics as I get things done.

ive always built 1st then painted , then weathered it, as the whole thing in real life would weather all together at the same time? :eh:

It's been fun doing it this way. When I get my next tank (if I ever finish this one! LOL) I'll try the build first, paint after method.
