Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
Guys can anyone help?
I want to replace the faulty smoker unit in my HL Tiger 1, bearing in mind I have the special edition with the metal base, I cannot find anything to unscrew to remove it.
Everything appears to be sitting or screwed onto a little plastic tray and without dismantling each component of the smoker to get it out I really can't see any other way of doing it. The tray stands on 2 little feet that are not hollow all the way through, there are no other holes or means of securing this plate that everything sits on.
Hope this sort of makes sense, I was told you just unscrew it, pull the plug on the main board and remove. NOT the case.
All help greatly received.

Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
Doodle,I'm not to clear on what your describing.Do you have the Asiatam Tiger lower hull? If so four screws hold the componet tray to the hullif it is a stock H/L Tiger then between the to screws that hold the back plate on are the two screws for the smoker. The smoker screw are offset, they are not hard to find if you start at the back. Now if you have not removed the upper hull I can see where you may have trouble. You will find three screws on each side of the hull, but you have to remove the tracks to see and remove these screws. If you need further help let me know,Blake
Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
Hi Blake,
Thanks for your response. I have the HL Tiger 1 special edition which has an all metal belly plate. There are several screws dotted about around this plate and I am wary of undoing the wrong ones in case something comes adrift inside that I can't get back in.

Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
From your description you seem to have the Asiatam lower hull.place the tank on a table and look above the left track at the rear of the tank,if you see a small metal piece on the left side protruding from the hull you have an Asiatam lower hull. This bar is a release for the hull latch, push the bar toward the left and pull up on the rear of the hull it should open straight up.Sorry but I am on a different computer and do not have access to my pictures file. You can use a small screw driver to push the lever to the left. Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
Hi Blake,
Yes, it is a flat bar, sprung loaded, the rear of the top of the body has two hooks that go into holes on the bar and lock into place.

Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
That good.you have the Asiatam Hull, now you can see the smoker and if it running or not.The white plastic tray that every thing is bolted to is held in place by 4-screws that you will see on the bottom of the hull, once the tray is loose it will exspose tje two screws holding the smoker in.But first see if it is pluged in and turned on,their sould be a red switch and a white knob, the switch is the smoker power switch, the white knob is volunm control. These smokers are know to malfuction next week I will be presenting a new smoker designed to work in all the Tanks.I should have some units ready by Friday next week. But their are some things you can check, power plug, pump running,if it is the proporsional unit it will have four wires connected to the motor wires if not then you will only have the 2-wire plug for power.you can remove the four small screws where the hoses exit the smoker and see if the element is saturated with oil,if so pull the element out slowly and remove the cotton ball, straighten out the element very carfully and make sure the two wires are connected, you can check voltage at these two wires it should be 7.2 volts when the smoker is on.Check that out and let me know,I will be online later today, sorry I still cannot show you any pictures, their is a posting by me on the Asiatam hull so you might try searching Asiatam hull and see what comes up,Blake
Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
Hi Blake,
When you refer to the white tray, do you mean the white sheet that everything seems mounted on and can be seen when looking down into the hull?
If so,are the 4 screws placed one in each corner on the outside/underside of the metal bottom plate? If this is correct it is where my first problem lies as I have 2 screws in each of the 4 corners.
I just bought a new smoker unit whch has filaments in and a clear reservoir, is this the same as what you have mentioned?

Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
The four screws you need to un-screw are from rear to front the outer screws closest to the track, first and third position from the rear. The other screws are frame screws do not remove these, the screws in the front hold in the gearboxes. If you need the wiring diagram it is on site in the electronic section or use search function And the clear smoker is the newer proportional units that tend to work a little better. The unit I am talking about is a new design using fog fluid like the trains and ships use,it is a design that me and two other forum members have been working on.The unit you purchased is the best one on the market right now.Good Luck Blake
Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
Once these screws are out does everything lift out of the hull on the white base? Or, does the metal base come off leaving me access underneath to the 3 scews holding the smoker unit in place?

Re: Removal Of HL Smoker Unit
The intire tray will lift out,you may have to disconnect the motor wires and the speaker which is mounted on the right hand side of the hull may get in the way.Once the tray is out you can get to the smoket screws.Let me know if you need more information,I am sorry I can't post a picture.Bill has just sent me a new tray for another project and I can't post a photo to show you,but the four screws will release the tray.
