1/16 IRAD First Meet of 2010 @ Weston - 3 vids

Enjoy, this is whittled down from well over an hour of video, and took many hours of experimenting with different video editors, formats, aspect ratio's and quality settings. Got there in the end though, even if I haven't mastered the widescreen set up yet?

Hi,

Looks like you all had a very good time, I'm sorry I couldn't make it.

When I built the 1/8 Panther years ago that is the area I used as a proving ground. Great place to run. Sometimes it gets really muddy there and on one occasion I had to attack the tracks with a pressure washer before I was allowed to take it back to its home in the conservatory.

Thanks for putting the videos up.

Cheers

The best part for me was how much FUN you were having - most types of model making are rather solitary and dare I say it elitist, but here we have a bunch of guys just thoroughly enjoying yourselves.

Did the passing public show much interest?

The one thing that you realise at the meets is the humour, I guess some people might look at the models and think we are some bunch of anoraks who attempt to build models that we can show off, but it has never been like that. These tanks have to be built to take a fair amount of abuse (..ask Septon?!) and in all honesty I don't spare the horses when I am using mine, if they break then I have found a weak point, so I just fix it even stronger. As I said to someone Sunday, I treat every meet as a proving ground. Something has broken on one of my tanks at every meet.

We take the mickey out of each other relentlessly (if you watch the videos carefully you will notice a Jagdpanther that mysteriously appears in almost every shot, Matt isn't exactly camera shy).

For anyone who is sat in the wings, but thinks that their tanks 'aren't anything special', please be reassured that they do not have to be. We don't play by any strict rules, the whole point of the exercise is to have a good laugh and a fun day out. The only thing I would say is that having a Tamiya compatible battle system does enable you to join in the battling. Having said that, Septons bulldozing Sherman, and his tank transporter are equally as much fun.

It would be great to see people invite themselves along at one of the future get-togethers, you will be welcomed by all regardless of what you bring along, and with an age range of 17 to how old??? there is always someone to chat with. At the end of the day we all want to see this as an affordable fun hobby, so that as many people as possible can participate.

As for the passing public, yes we had an audience for most of the day!

Cheers
