Hi Raven, I think they were made ewith grills origonaly but possibly lost or removed in combat ? I think the Porsche KT and Henschel KT had diferant grills.

Hi Chris I have fitted the Shumo grills from Welsh Dragon to my Matorro KT hull. You will have to remove the moulded bolt heads to get a snug fit but other than that fine. I just wish I had been a bit carefull with removing my bolt heads as I could have reused them once the grills were in place. Andy is correct with the Porsche grills they were a diffrent type under the turret bussle. All the best for now

PS if you need any photos I will not be able to help till 23/2/10 as I am away untill then.

I don't think there is a straight answer to this one. I have pictures of tanks in the field with both mesh and solid (raised) covers on the front grates (always flush when mesh on the rear), although mesh is far more common. Also it wasn't unusual for a mesh to be missing in real life on one or other grate. One thing I don't have in my fairly comprehensive set of books though is a picture of front grilles that look like the Schumo (Aber) ones (theirs are basically the same as the rear ones). I'm not saying they are wrong, just that I have no evidence they are right. All the pictures I have show raised grilles that 'wrap around' the contour of the turret so they don't hit when it turns (this is why as littletankman says the Porsche & Henschel turreted tanks had different curves on the inner edges of the grilles (different profile turrets to avoid).

Having said all that I fitted the Schumo mesh to my Tamiya KT because I couldn't work up the enthusiasm to make my own, and as I said above there's no proof they are wrong, just a lack of proof they are right.

Finally, I had to trim the bolts on the Tamiya KT to get a good fit so no different to the Matorro, which is said to be a perfect copy of the Tamiya.

Here is a pic of the Bovvy Jagdtiger deck, you can see the front grills, but i dont know if they differ from the KT.
