Tamiya Pershing corrections....

Post by Yellowshaker »

Ok guys, some of you have seen my newly purchased, pre-built Tamiya Pershing. The man I bought it from did a beautiful job painting it, but he did it in desert camo. I thought about it for the last few days and decided that I will change this to a correct WWII depiction of the Pershing. Well, at least I am plannign to try. Now one of the member on RCU had sent me a llink to some excellent pictures of just about every inch of this tank. As I looked through the pictures I picked up on many little details like the weld lines and rough cast look on parts of the tank. Well, welding is one of my things and I appreciate the realism it brings to the tank model. I have never tried this and did not want to experiment on the Tamiya, but you know how it goes. Now, I've seen guys use all types of things to create weld lines on these forums and they look great, but again I decdied to try something no one else has mentioned. I wll share it with you all IF it works out as planned. For now I am waiting for some Mr. surfacer 500 to try simulating the cast looks and in the meantime trying this weld technique. I'd like to share this re-work with you guys fi there is any interest. Again, I have never gone to this much trouble with detail, but if any tank is worth it, it's the Tamiya. I've included a few pictures of the tank as it is now and I will continue to post as I go along.
I want to thank all of the guys here who always help me out with my questions and if anyone has any suggestions to make the Pershing better, please let me know. I am looking to do big things with thesse little tanks and any help is always appreciated.

Hello Joe,I only found one build thread and most of the pictures were lost when we changed over, you could PM the guy's and ask for information and most guy's saved their build photos on their on computers. Also I would diffidently check out the painting and weathering section for guides to painting, very helpful and the very board created by several members teaching others how to apply their techniques. I was one of the students,I did ok after stripping back down once. That is also an option for you.Ask the seller what kind of paint, and then you will know what is needed by the information in the P/W section.Easy off oven cleaner will take it down to plastic base, but is a little messy and might take several coats.I did strip off three layers of paint in about two hours using this method. Also you have to decide acrylic or enamel paint. Most use Tamiya acrylic. Need any help you know how to find me, cheers Blake

As usual you are there to help brother. As this paint is very light and coarse I approached a friend who does many models and he said this was obviously not cleared and to paint over it would be no problem at all. He told me to do wahtever weld seems and such and then prime it and shoot it with the OD. I have a couple of photos of the weld lines. I think it's working out pretty well...your comments are welcome of couorse.

Be sure to check out the P/T Board, three reasons klear floor polish,Ron-seal matte floor varnish, window cleaner. These three products will save money and used properly will give a great finish that will last and prevent dirt, mud, rain, from sticking and damaging your finish. Weld lines take patience, best regards Blake

As always yuo guys come through.
I decdied to attempt to replicate the first Pershing that was knocked out in WW2, that being the "Fireball" from the 3rd armor div. 33 tank battalion F comp. Today I receieved my decals from ETO and also got a jar of MR. Surfacer 500. Here are the results thus far.
I am happy with the results and am now on a mission to get this painted. The only snag I really ran into is trying to find pictures of fireball to know the correct placement of decals...

Thanks a lot brother!! Very nice tank. One question you may be able to answer. I bought the correct decals from eto. They only come with 3 stars for this tank. I assume one on the front, one for the rear hull, and only one side of the turret? I is smaller than the other 2, hence the turret?
