Snow and RX18 don't mix well!

Post by Wight »

Hi all.Not been doing much tanking for a while, but with all the snow thats just been dumped on the Isle of Wight I thought it would be a good opportunity to get the Stug out and play.
So spent the morning charging up batteries and took it outside to play, for about a minute.Thats when one side stopped working and produced a nasty burning smell.
Oops!
Snow and RX18's don't mix well.
The snow jammed in the sprockets and caused overload on the board.
Oh well, when it's dried out I'll put it back in the cupboard and forget about it until the summer,it's back to model railways and warhammer while it's cold I think.

Fitted nearly all my tanks with fuses and they work, fitted them to a pershing i had in bits, assembled it and set it off for a run the sprocket screw backed out and the track jammed blowing the fuse and i think saving the board. The pictures show an old panther and how i fitted them on both forward and reverse and one between the battery and the board, the other tanks have line fuses fitted inside

Good advice.
Stupid thing is,I'd seen others on forums do it before and still carried on and did it anyway!

Hi folks,

One of the tricks with tanking in the snow (as discovered a few years ago from RC Panzerketten) is to leave the tank outside for about half an hour before you use it. This gets it down from ambient room temperature to ambient outdoor temperature. This means that any snow you later drive over won't melt then re-freeze on your tank.

Having said that, as I didn't risk going to work today, I only left my Pershing out for about 15 mins before impatience got the better of me and I gave it a run around the garden. Unfortunately the snow was a bit slushy and it built up under the hull and eventually the tank was left on a pedestal of snow with two spinning tracks at the far end of the garden.

Doh!

If I'm stuck at home tomorrow and there's some fresh snow and it's a bit colder I will have to get the T-34 on the case as that is a bit better suited to snow, just like the real thing.

Happy tanking!
