Which electronic system?

Post by jrc »

I've stuck with standard HL and Tamiya electronics but now I 'd like to try one of the others, but which? :S
I've a Tamiya KT I converted to a Jagdtiger with HL rx-18 gear in it I'd like to change.
I fancy elmod but what exactly do I need for a working system with sound etc, there are so many boards, add-ons :wtf: and nobody seems to say "this is what you need" and sure as there is s**t in a cat I'll buy something and find "oh you also needed this to make it work".

Anybody got some thoughts, info, advice before I take the plunge? :~

Hi

like many others I have bin there and done that.....and would certainly buy Tamiya and Elmod again.

I agree with others that Elmod offers more options than Tamiya, it is similarly modular in design, but is more labour intensive to install. They both need a lot of internal space for installation and both sound terific but I think that with the correct speaker Elmod edges it. I only have one of each system running so can't express an opinion on other tank installations but I have no doubt other advice will follow shortly.

I have a HL Tiger with MK 1 Elmod electronics and love it.....apart from the very short battery life of 15 to 20 mins.

The MK1 Elmod is very different to the new MK 2 version in terms of sounds, card design and numbers of cards used for a similar installation. The tank option which is chosen via small links on one of the cards can give you a very good battery life as well. Elmod also make a very good battle system that is Tamiya compatible as well, all of the kit is plug and play and support is pretty good if you have a problem.

Well thats my humble opinion but by far the best info you will get is from a pm to Wiblywobly (Rob) he is probably the best informed person on this kit in the UK so his advice is best.

I hope this helps..... have a great New Year

No.....the Tamiya kit is 2 modules as you know, and the MK 1 Elmod is at least 3 depending on what you need for the job. My MK 1 installation is 4 boards. Control board, sound board, motor drive board and a booster board for higher current motors. They add up to the volume of the 2 Tamiya boards, but are more easlily installed as you can spread them round the hull or stack them by plugging one into the other.

The MK 2 system is different so you are better off sending a pm to Wiblywobly as he has the experience of both types.
I believe there are fewer cards and the recomendation that you stick to standard HL white or black cap motors means that you dont need the power booster for higher current motors.

Elmod is designed for use with standard HL motors and they operate the tank with them in mind. Folks do upgrade the motors and gearboxes, as I have, but you have to be careful pulling high currents through the motor drive card.

Give Rob a pm he is best to advise you on the latest Elmod kit.

You will have a terific tank whichever installation you go with.....enjoy

Just had a thought..... if you check out the Tankzone website they show the full Elmod cardset under their spares page,

There are 3 cards plus the battle system and muzzle flash unit if you want them too. I think the 3rd card is if you want to use the HL sound card, so if you want to rip out the HL kit completely, you will possibly only need 2 cards plus your own RC kit reciever module. Have a look or better still check out the Elmod website.

Good hunting Mike

For a full el-mod setup, you need the thinktank (motion), the blaster (sounds) and the CSI (battle circuit) modules.
There is an additional module to allow you to use a HL radio and receiver, if you really need to.

Most of us are starting to use the Planet T5 2.4GHz radio system, only 45 Pounds for a full set, and no more radio interference problems at club meetings.

the Planet 2.4ghz radio is well worth the £45 cost of the radio because the vendor installs the throttle spring modification into the radio, so that it self centres. I modified mine for my Leopard 2A6 by removing the channel 5 switch and instaling a firing and machine gun switch on the right hand side at the top and a function control switch on the left hand side at the top of the radio, so that I can fire the main gun and machine gun and the using the combination of both switches opperate the lights in either combat mode or normal road mode, engine on and off, main gun stabliser on and off, as you would when moving the trim tabs

certainly looks a good buy from what I've read but as a first step I want to try with the HL rx-18 set up already in the tank and want to know what I need to buy to get elmod sound. The elmod site lists a variety of boards but when you think you've got what you want, you get "buyers who bought this also bought ......" and get another list of stuff. I just want to be sure I get it right. :D
