Army Ranking

We seem to have new ranking system which seems more correct to an armored unit,the U.S.Army and I think the British army does not have commanders,that is a navy rank.Well just thought it was worth mentioning.

Hi During the war any rank above lance corporal could have been tank commanders this is in the British Army.They may even have had higher ranks in the same tank but the corporal was in charge of the tank,the same thing happened in the Royal Air Force The pilot may have been a Sergeant and the navigator could have been an officer but the pilot was in charge.Strange but true lower ranks giving orders to higher ranks.

Pete is absolutely correct, taking senior ranks out into the field and having your boss tell them that you are in charge shocked all of them all the time but made me smile all the more .

t'was a quick google search and it is the british army ranks,

if anybody would like to post a new ranking system (porperly ordered ww2 one or something) then feel free to stick it here and ill put it up xD

Hi here are the lower ranks
Soldier Ranks
Private
All new entrants enter the Army as a Private. However, it's the Arms Service you join which determines what type of Private you are. In the Royal Artillery you'll be called a Gunner, in the Royal Armoured and Army Air Corps you're a Trooper, in the Royal Corps of Signals you'll be called a Signaller, and in the Royal Engineers you're a Sapper.
Lance Corporal
The first step into leadership requiring supervision of small teams of up to four soldiers. Opportunities to specialise in your trade, undertake specialist military and adventurous training skills and be eligible for promotion. Typically requires three years of service.

Corporal
Having shown leadership skills and with some additional trade and instructor qualifications, you will be given command of more soldiers and possibly hi-tech military equipment such as tanks and guns. Typically requires six to eight years of service.

Sergeant
This is a senior role of responsibility acting as second in command to a troop or platoon of up to 35 soldiers. You will be responsible for their conduct, discipline and performance. You will enjoy a wide range of career options and typically requires 12 years of service.

Staff Sergeant
This is a senior role combining man and resource management of around 120 soldiers. You will work as a team leader to ensure soldiers are properly equipped. You could be a trainer overseas amongst many other options. Typically requires 14 years of service.

WO2 Company/Squadron Sergeant Major
This is a senior role focussing on the welfare and management of a company of up to 120 soldiers. You will manage the movement and maintain the discipline of your soldiers. You could be selected for a commission or lead training teams around the world and typically requires for 16 years of service.


WO1 Regimental Sergeant Major
This is the most senior soldier rank, typically reached at 18 years of service. You will assist the Commanding Officer with leadership, command, discipline and the care of up to 650 officers and soldiers and their equipment or work in various Headquarters across the Army.

Also some regements had other senior ranks such as Colour sergeant Major which is above Staff Sergeant but below Regimetental Sergeant major.
