Ernst Barkmann's Panther G

Post by magmer »

I have just ordered a HL Panther G from Forgebear and I understand from Dave that it is on its way. I would like to depict the tank used by Panther ace Ernst Barkmann who passed away in June this year just two months before his 90th birthday. Has anyone out there got any pics of the scheme for this vehicle, did it have zimmerrit, any unique modifications? As it was late in the conflict I am led to believe that it was no longer applied as it took too long to set. Any help would be gratefully recieved. Many thanks magmer

barkmann's tank was a panther A, it had zimmerit and a standard 3 tone camo with the number 424 in black with a white outline.

hi Magmer
oz is right, Barkmanns early Panther no.424 was an A but it was destroyed after his escapade at Barkmanns Corner. His famous run through the American lines in the Ardennes was in a Panther-G, no.401, it didn't have zimmerit from a photo I've seen.

Thanks for your quick response guys, the tank arrived this morning but not had chance to run it yet but it is looking good. Wife got the parcel and said 'Oh no not another tank!' Women don't seem to appreciate these things. Will respray it and number it as 401. magmer

Hi Dave, I was just about to email you to say the tank has arrived safely this morning. Not had chance to run it yet. Wish I had 401 of them but sadly I currently have 6x, when the Sherman come out I will buy one of those too. I am trying to persuade a friend of mine who does excellent decals for 1/35 scale to do a range for 1/16 maybe in the new year it will get him motivated. Another friend of mine is currently moulding 1/16 acessories so I will see how those come out next week. Many thanks magmer.

Hi Dave I have tested the tank runs ok, smoke only coming from 1 exhaust but as they don't correspond with 'throttle' or engine revs its not that important. Many thanks Mark.
