DIY MGs

Post by torpedochief »

Christmas Time again!

So to get inthe spirit lets tear up some decorations :S

You have all seen the fiber optic trees, and various decorations. If you find one that no longer works, carefully cut the about 15 strands. Now either drill out your Heng Long MG so five of the strands will fit inside.

Remove the LED from the MG in the turret, and fashion a nice looking MG 34 for the coax. Again drill a hole to accomodate five of the optic strands. Securethe stands into the MGs with five minute epoxy. (Hint: leave one or two of the strands sticking out just a bit from the muzzle of the MG.) Use the epoxy since you don't want anything attacking the fiber optic strands.

Insert the other ends into a snug fitting bit of heat shrink. DO NOT shrink the heat shrink.

When both Bow and Coax MGs are installed take your LED that was once the MG and bring both the Coax and the bow strands together and place them on the tip of the bulb. (You could gently scrape the side of the figber optics that come into contact with the LED and lay them alongside the LED.)

Use electrical tape and bind the strands to the LED. Now mount your LED where it will not get in the way and is secure.

If you really want to get fancy change the LED from red to yellow. Just be aware of the voltage diffrence in red and yellow LEDs.

So with one LED you have two operational machine guns.

hi Don
no need to wreck the decorations, you can pick up 4metres of 1mm fibre optic for £1 + postage off ebay and it works great on MGs etc. It's also strong enough to use as small flexible drive shafts.
cheers
