Ahmed from Qatif, KSA.

Post by AhmadOve »

Hello everyone, this is Ahmed from Qatif, KSA. I am 40yo and working in financial sector. I have deep interest in historical warfare especially WW1 and WW2 and with it established tanks love. I had visited 🇷🇺 few months ago and found an amazing static tanks made from copper and thought that I have to get couples tanks, T34 and for sure the mighty Tiger 1. I couldn't buy them in Russia as I had to leave and I saw them before a day of my trip, so I returned to my country and started searching the net. Long story short, after a month of search I decided to buy RC tank and bought Torro RTR King Tiger 1:16 scale instead of a static model.

A month after that I bought another German tank which is a jagdtiger from Torro which I really like. I am not using them that much, but I like the look and feel of them being heavy and steal. I have upgraded the batteries as well, the later tank I ordered without a battery & charger and bought an after market 5000 mAh batteries which is a fast charger with an indicator when it fully charged.

The king tiger exhausts smoke generator was DOA and had contacted Torro for w replacement which they sent me a free replacement with full support on how to change it. It works now, but it is very weak, you barley see any smoke. The jagdtiger is the same, but the smoke generator system is different.

BTW, the king tiger smoke when fire which is very obvious and awesome.

I would like to get a good smoke generator system, but I'm really confused about the compatibility. I saw a lot in ebay, but they seem for HL which is confirmed by the seller.

Additionally, I wanted to fabricate an extension charging cable with Tamiya plugs to enable charging the tanks without the need to open the top hull, but I'm not that comfortable with doing that despite of my research. I'm afraid of batteries or charger catching fire or explod, so I might continue charging the battery outside the tanks.

I had approached someone in YouTube which really does great weathering to inquire about getting Tiger 1 and aftermarket battery charging extensions, but his price was too high and add to it the shipping and tax. It wasn't worth it.

I am planning to get a Tiger 1 very soon and looking at Mato, but I might end up with Torro again as I still didn't develop painting and weathering skills. Maybe down the road, who knows. But I'm eager to buy a tank and paint, weather and make it look like out of Białystok-Minsk battle.

In the future, I will be adding a T34 and IS2 to my collection. I hope these companies make more WW2 and cold war tanks such as IS3 as I didn't find any RC IS3 tank in the market.

Last thing, any recommendations for good grease for the tracks and gearbox? I really appreciate recommending a specific brand.

Lastly, I would like to thank @Platophaedrus who referred me to this community as my original post was in Reddit at this link https://www.reddit.com/r/rctanks/s/PFZ9KfLKiX which I posted some pics of my tanks. No modes made, but I like them !!

Sorry for the long thread and thank you for reading. Any advices or tips are appreciated.

Ahmed Hi,
Welcome to the Forum
My first Tiger 1 came with a built in charging socket situated between the exhaust stacks with the actual socket in the centre of the faux inertial starter,
No problem because I was using Ni-Cad or NiMh battery's but now all my Tanks have LiPo or LiOn battery's I no longer charge them internally, Just not worth the worry.
Anyway I hope you enjoy what is now your Forum, ask lots of questions and if you have answers tell the Forum
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Welcome to the group. The IS-3 is a tank a lot of folks have asked for, but hasn't really had much availability unless you are willing to scratch build or 3D print one yourself.

I had dreams of working for Aramco back in the day, but alas, no such path was opened.
