Good Morning

Post by alexglissan »

Good Morning,

A new member from Australia.

I've recently purchased two tanks, both 'professional versions' from Heng Long to run and mod with my nephew this Christmas.

- Sherman M4A3
- Tiger I

It looks like a great hobby. I have some experience with electronics and soldering and a tiny bit of experience with an airbrush.

I'm looking for tips on:
- Battery size and battery compartment modification
- Structural reinforcement for the plastic hulls
- Suggestions for bearing(s)
- Suggestions for possible (?) waterproofing

Thanks for having me,
Alex

Welcome: The M4A3 and Tiger 1 are a good start, although it was alleged that it took 5 Shermans to handle a Tiger. Hmm....

I know that all the subjects you mention for tips have been discussed amply here on RCTW. At the upper right of this page, you will find a search box. The little gear-like icon on the right end of the box will lead you to a page that allows more sophisticated searches (i.e. "Boolean" type). Check it out.

Hello Alex. Welcome from Argyll and Bute. I’m sure some of our other Australian friends will be along soon.

Hello from NJ, USA.

I don't know a lot about your particular topics; but someone here certainly does.

I could help if you wish to weather your tanks. I like mine hideous.

Welcome Alex. As to the plastic hull stiffening here is how I manage the M4A3 and the Tiger (and every other one). I clean out the hull and plug holes then epoxy steel or aluminium to the floor.

Tiger II (couldn't find my Tiger I picture)

In the upper picture that styrene to the right gets epoxied to the steel for a glue surface. On the Tiger II it is already applied to the aluminium and some bracing glued to it.

Not many folks here bother with water proofing so that info may be scarce. A search for "bearings" should net you what you are looking for. Battery? Do you have a charger? If not a search on Google for RC battery/charger will give you plenty of options. On this forum's search "battery" will give too many results. Like "Tiger" most of the threads will contain "battery" (just like your thread does).

Good luck and ask questions as they come up. Again, welcome aboard.
