Hi from the UK

Post by KeithT »

Retired now and just getting back into tank modelling after many years of not having enough spare time.
My first RC Tank was Tamiya's Leopard from around 1987. It went forward & backwards, left & right and had one speed using a servo driven mechanical switch and a clutch for each motor and no other functions.
I've just finished the Coolbank Valentine mk iii & I'm truly amazed by the detail & functionality. I bought the camouflage varient and just did a minor touch up on the paintwork. I did replace the hose from the auxiliary fuel tank, which was actually quite narrow. Coolbanks "rubber" hose is way outa scale. I had to give the motor for the smoker a tap as it had stopped, so having opened her up have an idea for some improvements, also think a "commander" might look cool. I think I may be hooked as the Tongede Churchill is arriving in about 2 weeks :) I'm looking into an airbrush as I think the Churchill will need some painting & detailing to look more realistic. I remember building the 1/76 Airfix version when I was about 10 years old ...all those tiny wheels and soft plastic tracks which reacted with the styrene of the wheels after a year or so to form a sticky mess! I believe it cost 2 shillings & six pence ...that's 12.5 pence or 15 cents. Enough reminiscing lol

 Retirement! And    getting back into modeling! It's a common experience among many of us on RCTW. We do love pictures, and I have a Crusader to do (someday) so I will be eager to learn from what you have done. A mighty welcome from Wisconsin, US, where tea is usually iced.

Hello KeithT, and welcome from Argyll and Bute. Just restored a Tamiya Leopard, purchased by my now wife for in 1990. Took the opportunity to modernise it at the same time.
You don’t get wiser as you get older. You just run out of stupid things to do.
