Tanks are becoming less and less needed as time goes by, what with the ease of tanking them out with planes and stuff. however when fighting in an LEDC (Less Economicaly Developed Country) such as Iraque ect they still aree of much use.
I agree with Steen .. In this situation i'd rather be the infatry man, however in Iraque ect ect in the tank for sure

absolutely definitely infantry, i had a good look inside some of the Iraqi tanks during gulf 1 the mess was unbelievable there was one tank with a very small hole in the turret but when i looked inside the crew had basically been turned inside out.

Another good one Steiner.

I hear you on that one, Oz. I was there also, and my prime MOS was tank hunter. I've seen the results off and one for many years.
Infantry for me all the way. I'll walk, thank you.

Given that the military brass is still following the tried and true path of fighting today's wars with the last war's battleplans and not fully understanding the true potential of current new technologies for battlefield surveillance and pre-emptive strike, I would vote with the majority on this one and go infantry.
Should the military brass ever truly twig to the idea they have the capability now to have 24/7 real time observation capability anywhere they choose, and react accordingly in minutes, then my choice would very likely shift to being safe at home with a cold drink and a hot woman!
In the meantime, on the local news tonight another group of 2 Bn PPCLI from Shilo were headed over to Afghanistan today for a 6 - 8 month rotation. Think it's the Royal 22nd Regiment coming home to Quebec City. Happy Xmas for some...not so much for the others!

having read some of the horror storys about the tank crews being burned alive whilts the amunition cooks off. then I would like to be an infatryman. at least you can hide in a shell hole, but you can't hide a tank in a shell hole
