Beginner in a wiry problem with a TK 7.0 problem
Beginner in a wiry problem with a TK 7.0 problem
Hi everyone , first time builder and poster , i have acquired a TK 7.0 main boarded and radio station for my FT 17 project , Now the problem starts with a motors on the old gearbox and the fact that they burned out in a trial run (these motors and the gear box were all from a model that was sold in the 80s) . Now what i have found online is that Tamiya dual motor gearbox fits amazingly in the small ft 17 hull , but is it compatible with the TK 7.0 ? The connectors for the motors are huge and I'm worried if i tin on new smaller ones i might disrupt something related to the power supply . Long story short is Hang Long TK 7.0 compatible with Tamiya twin-motor gearbox? And if so how do i make it work ? thank you to all and I'm sorry if i broke any norm or rule about posting I'm very new .Thanks for the help and have an amazing day !

So I know the connectors will be different, so you will have to fix that. I also know that someone over thar (Not sure if it’s Henglong or Toucan Hobby or someone else) makes a metal gearbox/550 motor combo to be used with the TK7.0/7.1 (or maybe the TK26?) in a HL Leopard 2A6 with a metal lower hull.
So, I think that Tamiya’s tank motors are usually 540s or 550s so… probably?
I use ElMod’s control board in all of my tanks (HL, Taigen, and Torro), and I run 540s in my Abrams and 550s in my Leopard. I have had it overheat and shut down in the Abrams when using a 3s LiPo and running the tank as fast as it will go (which is faster than scale speed), but the ElMod just shuts everything down before it burns up. If you are using a 2s LiPo, which is what HL recommends, you’ll probably be fine? I never had an issue with overheating with a 2s LiPo and 540/550 motors

A lot of the Tamiya motors are 380s except for the "differential" transmissions in the Type-10, Abrams, and Leopard which has the larger 550 motor from what I remember.

Re: Beginner in a wiry problem with a TK 7.0 problem
If that’s the case with this gear box then there shouldn’t be any issue with plugging it into a TK7.0/7.1 other than switching out the plugs, mounting it, and making sure the drive sprockets fit, in theory…
Re: Beginner in a wiry problem with a TK 7.0 problem
Sorry, yeah the dual Tamiya transmission should run just fine in the FT17. I bought one of those Tamiya dual transmissions for my FT17 conversion that I will tackle sometime in the future based on a thread on Panzerketten, but it seems that site is not working anymore.

Re: Beginner in a wiry problem with a TK 7.0 problem
thank you booth for the help what i did as a test is took a old toy RC car from my childhood opened it up and tinned on the correct connectors , This thing is 100% smaller then Tamiya motors , ran it full power for 5-6 mins . nothing wrong happened except it got a bit warm . so I think that settles that question ? do you guys agree?
Re: Beginner in a wiry problem with a TK 7.0 problem
I would say it will be just fine. I bought the "Tamiya 70097 Twin Motor Gearbox Assembly Set". I think the motors ended up being FA130s. I saw in a build that they gearbox can be modded to take 180 motors also.
