Tiger 1 - 27Mhz Antenna

Post by bullehs »

Hi again.

I got my hands on an old Tiger 1. It seems to be missing the antenna on the tank. I can't seem to find one in the UK and Heng-long-panzer.de wont ship small items to the UK. Is it really important?

Thanks.

Theoretically, a 27 MHz antenna should have 1/4 wavelength...
For convenience, it is made 1/16, but this is too much for a transmitter in the hands of a modeler, so it is shortened to 70 cm.
And this is not critical, because the model is controlled almost in direct line of sight, and this is not far.
In principle, you can use ANY telescopic antenna, even from a portable receiver, the main thing is that the thread fits......
Don't worry, buy something similar....

Sorry, I wasn't paying attention...
You can attach a 30 cm long piece of wire to the tank.
The main thing is that it is positioned vertically, 27 MHz is critical to the position of the antenna, this reduces the range of signal reception.
ordinary steel wire and attach it to the tank

Mr. Pavel is correct (as usual).

If a little extra range is desired extend the internal wire that runs between the MFU and the stud on the upper hull. The wire does not need to be a bare wire or external, just tape or glue it to the inside of the upper hull.

The main thing here is not to overdo it...
The total length of the 27 MHz receiver antenna should not exceed 96 cm...
the receiver circuits are designed for a certain signal harmonic and it is better to be shorter than longer (this only applies to the antenna!)
Well, I hope you understand me... ;)

I soldered some copper wire to the internal antenna lead on on my PZIII and ran it back and forth under the rear overhang on the engine deck. Certainly nothing near 96cm long! Works fine, more range than I would ever need.
I'd try no antenna on your Tiger and see how it does. Then try varying lengths hidden in the hull.

Short antenna, disrupts the operation of the circuit..
VERY simple picture......
violation of the length of the conductor reduces the current and disrupts the operation of the circuit....
The range of signal reception decreases several times, to 10 meters.

Pavel - thanks for taking the time to explain. Having charged the battery fully, it seems the tank loses signal approximately 7-8 feet from me, so would have to install some kind of antenna.

I would see if there are any tankers close to you in the UK. I know I have a couple of those antennas laying around so I would assume others in the UK would also.
