Post all your Smaller Scale RC Tanks, Half Tracks and Vehicles, including build threads here. From below 1/18 to way down as far as you can go, H.O. 1/87th scale or less. Even your Smaller Scale figures are welcome here.
I have had this sitting around in the box for a few years (Thanks Herr Doctor) waiting for the right time to convert it to full battle tank R\C
This is a static 1/24 VsTank model with switchable lights but I want more than that. It has a transmission shell but no gears. So I went online to find a used donor Tank but found nothing new or used. So Decided to fit a HL 1\24 transmission to the tank.

The fitting process involves grinding and cutting and trimming of the gearbox casing. It's a tight fit in this one.

upper hull check for clearance.

lower hull check for clearance. The HL gearbox axles are too wide. 4mm will be removed from each axle output side.

Drive sprockets test fit. some axle trimming will be needed for correct spacing.

The hull is back together with the transmission mounted and all clear.

Good Job that!
I've got the full RC version of that tank (along with a Sherman) that is Ir ready and has the recoil and flash for the main gun, working Mg, etc. VS had it going on for a while there. Looking forward to seeing yours run!

Yes the VsTanks were the best you could get for a while. I also have the VsT Sherman M4a3 and the Tiger 1. Both have been converted to 2.4G HL 1/24 radio gear. I am currently working on getting the recoil to work properly on both of those Tanks.
Did some more work and cut the old battery tray out. This makes for a lot more room to work with.
Yes Herr Doctor, I am getting pretty good at this I got the gearbox installed and tested. That's enough for one day. Tomorrow, I will start the radio installation
I had some spare time today so started the wiring phase of the tank retrofit. First thing to do is to add a main power switch using the stock location. This tank being a static version did not have a main power on switch. The opening had a dummy switch cover glued in so first step is to remove that. I have a switch from a retired model that will work with a few mods. After testing the fit of the new main power switch, looks like the switch tabs will need some work as they are just a bit too wide.

This fake switch cover needs to come out..

Took a bit of grinding and filling of the switch mount to get this thing in there!

That was a tight fit and took way more time that I would have thought. The switch had to be fitted to the tank so it was not plug and play lol.
It is best IMO to electrically insulate the receiver before installing it in the chassis. This one sits next to metal springs and I don't want no accidental short circuits with those springs and such. When running outside, bumps and such can cause stuff to come loose in a retrofit model job such as this and often this will damage the receiver electrically. I use clear packing poly tape to insulate the exposed bottom side of the circuit board just to be safe. I hate losing electronics and do what I can to protect them. Pictures below show the simple way to fortifie the like of any circuit board.
The RX-24 receiver will be mounted to the chassis with 2 micro screws. One has to be careful not to warp the circuit board when makings the screw tight The solder side of the receiver is uneven due to circuit component ends sticking out of the board. Circuit board can be easily dames using the wrong diameter screws as the wholes are quite small .

just enough room to mount the receiver but now must find the position where both screws will work as they are offset. I prefer this orientation but will not work as not enough space on the mount in this orientation. So 180 degree flip is required.

receiver mounted to chassis in the normal spot. Micro screws visible left and right. this is never a quick or easy job if done right.

Yes, Herr Doctor, some strange results appear from time to time lol
