Taigen Premium Gearbox. Is this buzzing sound troubling? Or am I over reacting?
I bought a new Taigen V3 premium gearbox with 390 motors to replace the old stripped one in the Taigen Tiger 1 tank. It's giving off this buzzing sound before the gears engage to run on some occasions. I emailed Taigen, showed them a similar video. But they didn't do any trouble-shooting or saying much, except asking me to return it. I was going to get another one but they're out of V3. So I ordered a V2 (on its way).
What is this buzzing sound? Does it sound or look like the motor was spinning but the gears were not catching? And do I also have another problem with the motherboard? It's a hit and miss to fire up the tank.
The first 30 seconds of this 1.5 minute video was me trying to turn the tank on! You can hear the buzzing in the next 60 seconds.

Normal. That motor/ESC whine is caused by the MOSFETs on the mainboard. They produce an audible sound as they send the pulse modulated signal to the motors. That pulsed signal produces an audible whine. Some manufacturers use "ultrasonic" MOSFETs which shift the pulse frequency into a range the human ear cannot hear.
The older Heng Long systems were audible just like the Taigen/Torro system. Heng Long has since upgraded theirs to ultrasonic MOSFETs so they don't have that whine on the 6.x and 7.x systems.

I have not heard that sound with the Taigen sound turned all tge way down. As tankme says, it certainly could be the MOFSET, but to me that also sounds like a motor working against a bound part, some considerable resistance. I would remove the tracks and check for any binding wheel. I would try the motors with the tracks off to see if the sound occurs.

Just fired up my Torro Sturmtiger...turned the sound all the way down. Makes the same sound IE...normal.

Great idea! Will do that.Herr Dr. Professor wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 4:00 am I would remove the tracks and check for any binding wheel. I would try the motors with the tracks off to see if the sound occurs.

The sounds produced by the motor windings are normal, digital servos produce the same sounds.
And in principle it does not depend on whether the motor is under load or not.
As soon as current appears in the winding, it will buzz until the signal passes the "0" point

Yep, normal, all my Taigen sound sets do that when the volume is too low.
But the real question is, WHY do you need to lower the volume !!?? the louder the better

I wish the Taigen CS would know and mention this so I didn't have to order a new gearbox (on its way). The dude just said return it. No attempt whatsoever to diagnosis the issue.Pavel wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 5:53 am The sounds produced by the motor windings are normal, digital servos produce the same sounds.
