OpenPanzer Turret function only

Post by ongbenghui »

Hi hI,

I was wondering if anyone has attempt to build a OpenPanzer board for Turret function only.
I saw someone did a totally disconnected turret from hull online, and thought it might be an interesting idea.

Basically, ELRS receiver is fairly cheap and you can get very small receiver with 4 wire CRSF connection.
Assume IR battle function, turret function only need
1) Recoil servo
2) Elevation servo
2) IR function, IR emitter and IR receiver
3) Various lights and gun flash.

This might be able to be made smaller and powered seperated from hull.

Any thoughts.

You have always had the ability to bind multiple RXs to a single transmitter. As long as the TCB is receiving the same signal that the hull is, theoretically you could control the whole tank from one transmitter and having them completely disconnected from each other. Basically you are just controlling two tanks from the same transmitter. I could see the benefit of this years ago when slip rings were really expensive, but now I just wouldn't see the purpose as the expense would be a lot higher than just using a slip ring between the hull and turret. Slip rings come in low power versions and high amp versions.

There is usually more than one way to solve a problem though. I just don't know that having the two systems independent of each other would be good for whatever use case you're contemplating.

Derek summed it up. It could be done, but surely there are less expensive options than putting two TCBs in one tank!
