At last!

Post by wibblywobbly »

Looking good, just hope everyone can find it.

Went to Bovington today, seeing as I can get in for free for 12 months, and actually looked at everything this time. Was there for a fair few hours and took lots of reference photo's just in case I decide to build anything that can't be bought off the shelf.

No matter how many times I see it, that King Tiger looks absolutely enormous! O.O

The shop was good, I bought a dvd on the Tiger, plus they sell a 4 pack of soldiers which just happen to be almost 1/16th scale at £2.75? I bought some, took them home, sawed them off at the waist, filled the shoulder joints with milliput, and painted them up as a DAK crew. Cheap as chips, and I now have a 3 man crew in my open top Panzer SIG33. That was an unexpected bonus.

It's a great day out down there, hardly anyone about, even went over and had a look in the scrapyard through the fence. There was a guy doing the same who seemed to know a bit about what was in there, including the weird Sherman variant which is ultra rare. A beach landing recovery vehicle?

I will go again when the weather warms up next year, it's not too far away from Bristol.

I would like to visit the Bovington Museum. Maybe perhaps spring 2010 of fall 2010 could be a possibility. I have a whole lot bonus point on my airline loyalty card, so it could be made a low-cost trip :-)

Have any of you recommendation for a good and cheap place to stay there. A Inn or bed&breakfast style place

cheers

You could've contacted the museum a week or so prior to your visit, then they can organise a private tour for you to climb into almost any tank(s) you want.
I did it last year and climbed into that kT 104! :D

Yep i went a couple of weeks ago with my free return tickets :D like you say there was nobody about so i could freely take pictures of what i wanted without somebody getting in the shot. The new hall looks great now its finished and i spent much longer looking around this time than i did before, wish i had seen the Sherman in the scrapyard tho, sounds interesting.

Keith :-)
