Re: Tanks
It looks as if you are refering to Tamiya tanks, probably in 1/16. The more specific information you can provide, the greater the chances that one of the experienced Tamiya tankers here on RCTW can help.
Oh, and I do admit, I love the inevitable ambiguity of perfectly well-constructed English: "Older model builder" could be one who builds older models (me), or one who is older (me), or and older one who builds older models (me, me). (O.K. I will start behaving soon.)

Re: Tanks
Jofaur86's solution is all you need if you are using the Futaba/Tamiya 4 channel radios. I personally don't like the Tamiya default steering on one stick and throttle on the other as it makes IR battling more difficult than it should be. So it's a simple case of switching the channels on the receiver. Also with almost every Tamiya and (I have built 9 of them) at least one channel will need reversing on the radio and that was simple even for me as a total RC newb on my first Tamiya. Where it becomes complicated with Tamiyas is when you try as a newb to use a modern reasonably priced Tx for instance like an FlySky fs-i6 with digital trims that isn't an obsolete expensive 4 channel Futaba/Tamiya:D

Hello,
If someone asks a question in the introduction round without introducing themselves, I wouldn't think of answering it.
apparently you don't even realize that someone is taking you for fools.Hello, I wonder? know if it is useful to answer? questions about concerns? since five days already? and no return??

Many, register only to have an opinion following problems, having no knowledge, level of operation, use any type of battery, no serious tools, and take the Forum, for after-sales service, hoping to have (for example miracle) the solution, then no news, I can hardly believe that I didn't find 5 minutes after a week? to get feedback. It's a lack of politeness and good manners.
