Hello! My name is Ed. I am a former Cavalry Scout in The U.S. Army. I have a new smoke unit for my Torro 1/16 scale Tiger I. How do I remove the old unit? Do you have to remove the bottom plate?
Re: Introduction
Welcome Ed from Chilly New York on Christmas Eve.
The short answer is yes.

I thought so. The customer service folks were very vague about how to do it. The original unit did not work, so they sent me a replacement. I appreciate your message. Are you retired from the Army? I retired as a Master Sergeant. Merry Christmas!

No worries, no I'm not retired service. I really am a Chef. And Thank you for your service
Word of advice. Use your phone and take pictures EVERY step of the way. So you can reference if you have to when you reassemble or to troubleshoot anything.
Here is a pic of the underside of my Torro Tiger I. Remove the 4 shiny screws at the corners of the pic. Not the painted ones. The tray will come up and out and you can access the bottom to unscrew and release the smoker by unscrewing those other 2 screws.
Of course you're going to have to move the rest of the stuff around inside and you may have to remove other things.

remove the 4 shiny silver screws
release the inner tray

Remove the wire/wires attached to the MFU
Remove the corresponding 2 screws, remove the old smoker and replace. Now do everything in reverse order and you should be good to go.
Merry Christmas

Welcome from Texas. I am former US Army, but not a tanker. I was actually in Military Intelligence doing electronics repair, but don't hold that against me. As Chef said, cable labels and pictures are your friend. I personally use the 3M Wire Marker rolls, but they are expensive. Luckily I got them from a previous job so I didn't have to pay for them. The rolls last for years when using them for tanks.

Re: Introduction
I do keep on saying it But if you glue a sheet of VELCRO to the base and sides of the the Tanks hull you can then fix the receiver or the MFU or the Smoker or the battery where you wish, No screws or Super glue just a strip of Velcro glued to the particular item and placed on the Velcro and it is secure
A strip of VELCRO to a battery and it can be located to the side of the Hull, The same for the Control board which can be on the floor or the side the Smoker can be as far or as close as you want it to be, what is important is that everything is secure and yet it can be moved when you want it to be moved.

The Velcro thing is a great tip. There is such an animal as sticky Velcro that works like tape.

Hello! I see that you already have great advice on replacing the smoke unit. When you get the current one out, keep it. A repair may be easy, "spare parts and broken hearts keep the world turning."
