Replacement MCU decisions ....
Replacement MCU decisions ....
My apologies for this duplicate post, but I've only just joined and I included this question in my 'introduce yourself' post before I read the message saying to not include questions in it, (there's a good start !)
I've recently bought a used non-working Tiger 1 with mostly metal parts with the intention of stripping it down and rebuilding and spraying it and adding a few extras, like FPV and an ELRS rx so that I can control it with my TX16s.
It's mostly in good shape, with the premium (black gear) motors working ok, but the fault appears to be with the v3 MCU. When I power it up (with a good fully charged NIMH), the fan runs but none of the controls have any effect after binding. So I'm wondering if the board is blown or just the RX part. I notice it has the ability to be driven from an external rx by connecting each servo channel, but those bespoke leads are missing, so I don't know whether to buy a new set or just buy a new MCU in case the board itself is U/S.
I'd make up the servo leads myself, but I can't identify the type of tiny 3pin sockets on the MCU.
I'd be grateful for any advice and opinions on the best way forward to fix or upgrade the radio gear.
I found a youtube video where a Guy even went as far as using a new pair of Esc's and an RX, but I can't find it again.

Re: Replacement MCU decisions ....
Sounds like you have the best radio ever. Treat yourself to a Beier SFR 1 HL board. Just one opinion among the many to follow.
Re: Replacement MCU decisions ....
Thanks for the reply Jimster.
Wow... I guess that's the peak of the available options, more expensive than my TX.
Yes the TX16 has impressed me, so much better than my old Spek 8. I have the 4in1 with an external ELRS so I'm able to use it with all of my existing boats and planes and some drones.
I did read through a lot of the posts on here in this section, but initially there appears to be so many options for Tank MCUs that I'm wondering whether to just replace the v3 in this Tiger and keep the 'toy' transmitter.

Hello, and welcome to this great Forum, where you will find lots of exchanges, advice, help, and conviviality. I didn't quite understand your request? you do not want to install servos on this type of card (photo) or standard radio? will not work. Unless replaced by another type of electronics, as indicated by Jimster. Attached is a link from the blog of a member of this forum, where you will find many explanations, on other electronics

Well here you are. What does the turret have for the cannon? Recoil? BB or IR Mechanical? What would your desires be for features? Would you want Servo recoil or Elevation? Put your ideas of options and features you'd like and you will get some suggestions.
I'll just put this update to my current build here to share 1 option. Heng Long TK 7.0 with options and goodies swapped into a Taigen Tiger like yours-

Re: Replacement MCU decisions ....
Thanks for the very handy link MrChef, it's quite timely for me, as I've just managed to pickup a used TK7.0 complete with controller, so it looks like an ideal and very economic solution to my faulty v3.MrChef wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 4:34 pm Well here you are. Re: Replacement MCU decisions ....
Totally doable. All the parts are available from Toucan. You can also get just the wires and harnesses and 360 harness if that's what you'd want.
Some options if you wanted to go a la carte instead of the whole kit=
Here's the wiring kit at the US warehouse-

"I included this question in my 'introduce yourself' post before I read the message saying to not include questions in it, (there's a good start !)" Actually, OldTanker, that's a better start than some, who entirely ignore the protocol to do an introduction. I see that you already have great advice about the HengLong 7.0 (with which I concur, despite my having lots of post-2017 Taigen/Torro tanks and a sentimental attachment to the various sound modules).
Please do keep us informed of your progress, and although they are not required, we just love photos of before/after/having fun with the tank.

Thanks MrChef, all carefully noted, I'll work my way through them.MrChef wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 5:57 pm Totally doable. All the parts are available from Toucan. You can also get just the wires and harnesses and 360 harness if that's what you'd want.
