New member saying hello from Cheshire. I’ve joined this forum in the hope I can gain much needed knowledge about 1/16 Taigen tanks. Briefly, my son and I bought a couple of Heng Long tanks to entertain ourselves during the long days of the lockdowns (Sherman and Tiger 1)
Recently I was looking to add to the collection and was fortunate to acquire an older Taigen Tiger 2. It’s metal hull, tracks, turret etc and has barrel flash and recoil. It has ni-mh batteries and the mfu says 2013.
The control is jerky and the sound is woeful to be honest.
So I’m wondering if it’s better to upgrade the Taigen mfu to the latest version (v3??) or dive in and upgrade to a Heng long v 6.1 or 7.1?
Anyway, that’s a question I’ll probably need to ask in the correct part of the forum and not here!

Aye up mi duck. Lived for a long time, just ‘ower the boarder in Derbyshire for quite some time. I have been told to be nice and try to help people who have Tigers. The Taigen system is in some ways better than HL, sound wise, but control wise awful. Up grade to a HL 7.0, or 7.1 if you want to use servos. With a wee bit of work you can use the existing system and connect it to a HL 7.0 without servos. Mr Chef on here has done it, with help from other on here.

If your Taigen MFU is from 2013, it is definitely outdated. Taigen did a major update in 2017 with the possibility of an array of accurate sounds. But subsequently, Heng Long did a great update for movement control and variety of functions, though not so much for sounds. Now the latest Taigen boards and sounds are becoming a bit hard to find, and Taigen seens to be lagging behind. If your Königstiger is pre-2017, I recommend Heng Long 6.0 or 7.0.

Welcome to the forum Benando.
Yes the Taigen controls are definitely lacking and lagging behind Heng Longs updates.
With help From Meter rat and others here on the board I was able to get the Heng Long TK 7.0 MFU to operate the Taigen/Asiatam turret gun elevation and recoil. My next step will be swapping over a Torro/Taigen Tiger I very soon to Heng Long TK 7.0 MFU and controls. The most challenging part was the cannon controls as the rest for a TK7.0 Swap is plug and play and a full conversion kit is available from ToucanRC as well as just the wiring if you were more adventurous.
I'll be sharing/posting up my MFU swap and build for the Tiger I starting later this month.
