Question about a HL Sherman

Post by michaelwhittmann »

On the back of the turret, has anyone build or bought the "platform" for a crewman to work to 50 cal AA gun?

Also, not sure what you are referring to. As far as I know, they just stood on the rear deck or fired it from the open hatches.

Never seen that. The only platforms I've seen that were welded to the back of the turret were on the Duplex Drive Sherman so the commander could pilot it from there while on the water.

There are no platforms welded to the turrets on normal Sherman’s. They fired from the deck or the hatch
It’s your tank it’s what you make it

The air inlet cover could be armored and it looks like a platform. And that feature is not modeled on the HL Sherman.

The Sherman has multiple engine deck configurations based on which model it is which would be why the HL deck version doesn't look like that.

We once had a club member who made such a "platform" by himself to be able to put a figure behind the cal50 gun.(just for fun)
As far as my knowledge goes, in real life there were no welded platforms on the Sherman.
The main designed function for the cal50 was air defense, however often used for ground support.
