TAMIYA Centurion - Suggested Paint?

Post by zooma »

Can anyone that has a TAMIYA 1/16 Centurion Kit please let me know what Tamiya recommend in their kit instructions to paint it with?

I am assuming that Tamiya will recommend their own brand of paint (!) - and it would be especially handy if they included their best match rattle can spray code number.

My hunt to find the best TAMIYA colour match for Deep Bronze Green continues.......and then I thought.....what does TAMIYA suggest painting their own 1/16 scale Centurion with?

I use a Vallejo "UK Bronze Green" as I couldn't find a Tamiya blend I liked for it.

The best deep bronze green is reckoned to be the xtracrylix one from when I was researching this question. I through it looked good and sprayed well

Thanks Ad Lav.

It’s handy to know what TAMIYA specify for their own Centurion kit as a rattle can is handy for a quick coat of colour and if the model is going to be weathered it could well be as good a base coat as any.

I will give it a try.

Thanks tankme, I will give that a try too!

I would like to have a good accurate colour for a project that I have in mind that is not going to be weathered (for a change) but will be more of a “parade ground” British Cold War tank - complete with all the “bull” including red wheel nuts etc!

Thanks Tom,

I have not tried any xtracrylix paint, but I am interested in finding a source to check the price and availability...and to find out what thinners to use with it for airbrushing.

Apart from Revell Deep Bronze Green (and the copy product sold on eBay as Revell colour) I have not found any other acrylics in that colour - now I have two more to try (xtracrylic and Vallejo).

Many thanks - Bob.

If Humbrol make a Deep Bronze Green acrylic that could be very interesting - especially if they have a rattle can acrylic as well!

Wrongly (perhaps?) - i was under the impression that the Humbrol spray paints were not acrylic so I was worried about how other paints would react when applied on top?

I will take a look on eBay to see what I can find (no local model shop unfortunately) and see what I can find out.

Not everything that Humbrol make in enamel is echoed in acyrilic but pretty much, just as not everything they make in those little tinlets are echoed in rattle cans but most are, Worth checking out and Humbrol rattle cans are bigger than Tamiyas.
