Adding a Volume Control to 1/24 Tanks

I have a few 1/24 scale RC tanks, only one of which has any sort of volume adjustment. The rest of them blast their sound effects at maximum volume, scaring the spouse & pets, so in the interest of peace & harmony I set out to add a volume control that would not alter the outward appearance of the tank in any way, nor would it cause any irreversible alterations to the tank. And it also had to be easy to adjust, without needing a tool or having to open up the tank.

It's very easy to do this yourself: take a Heng Long volume knob & remove the protruding white plastic knobby bit by prying it straight up & off. Then wire it inline (in series) with the existing speaker, running the extra wire down thru the screw holes in the chassis floor. These 2 wires attach to 2 of the 3 terminals on the potentiometer (you'll have to use a multimeter to figure out which pair of connections to use), then stick the volume pot to the bottom of the tank with a small piece of adhesive tape. All wiring is plug & play and non-destructive to the tank.



Looking under the tank, you can see that there is plenty of clearance between the ground & the knob, which can easily be adjusted with the tip of my finger.



Everyone in the house is now happy!
