Hello!! Getting back into modeling after 30 year absence and dipping a toe into the RC world

Post by omdowcett »

Hello!!

I was an avid model builder back in high school **cough** 30 or so years ago and have started getting back into it with a bang…. Building a 1/16th scale 3D printed Boxer CRV controlled via Raspberry Pi to be able to have driver and gunner views. It’s something I work on here and there when I have time. Anyone else here have any experience with Raspberry Pi’s and programming?

Welcome Odowcett to the forum! Only 30 years ago? Youngster. As far as programming help, I'll bet somebody will be along to help (I am able to change batteries in the remote - about the tech limit for me).

 With all the 3D wizardry here on RCTW, I'd expect the whole PI shop to show up soon. Welcome: I sure hope to see your project underway.

Yes, that’s the one. Goal is to stick the the real life Boxers separate Driver and Mission modules and make some additional mission modules in the future. Excellent source for more info on the Boxer: https://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/2024/05/ ... d-history/

Hello and welcome to the forum, from Argyll and Bute. I like, and very much approve of your choice. We need more modern stuff. 😝

Welcome from Ontario, Canada!
That should be a cool build. Thirty years is a long time, but many of the people on here built one of these as a their first RC model...

I suspect many started with 1:72 back then. I'm finding 1:16 far better now: I can see them.... Welcome.

I started with 1:48 aircraft in 7th grade, then I discovered 1:35 tanks and such in high school and never looked back... LOL

Heh heh...

Probably about 40 years between my last armour kit in high school (1/48 Bandai StugIII), and a HL PZIII about 10 years ago. Time flies.
