Speedline lcm 6

Post by FredtheFrench »

Hi all. Ihave the opportunity to buy a speedline model boat of a LCM 6. I know Speedline models is now closed, but I have a question.

This manufacturer has made 2 types of LCM. The LCM 3 and LCM 6, longer that the previous one.

Do you know if the LCM 6 was build during ww2, or was a modification of LCM 3 after the war? Don t know if fews LCM 6 were during d day in Normandy.

Since a moment I search informations about LCM 6, but none informations about year of manufacture.

Thanks for help.

Fred.

Hi Fred you have been away too long welcome back.
All I can find out about the LCM6 is ---
Landing Craft Mechanized Mk6 56 feet LOA, 26 Tonnes LDT,
2,718 built,
There is some discussion about total built some sources say that half that number were LCM3 but the accepted figure is 2,718,
First built 1943 last built 1945 by Soule Steel at Various Dockyards on the American West coast (Washington State, Oregon, and California),
I hope that helps.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Thank you Jarndice.

I never left, but I had to stop the models for other work and it's not over yet. :D

Your help is greatly appreciated. First built 1943 is for LCM 6?

Have a good week end.

Thank you very much. But a lot of work and a lot of parts are missing, or maybe this kit was sold without brass parts. No propellers, no propellers shafts, no motors support, no rudders and a complete plate of acrylic parts is missing.
