M1 Abrams usmc
Hey all, here's my USMC version of the Abrams, Got to work along side tanks during my time in the Marines so i pretty much based it of what I saw when around them. Photos were taken not too far from 29palms. This things is super fun to play with in the dirt.

Hello, USMC60mm
That is fine work on the Abrams! It's a custom here on RCTW to do an introduction, and as a first posting this one does pretty well. The introduction section is at viewforum.php?f=3
Maybe one of our helpful moderators can move this to that section, or (hint hint) you could tell us a bit more about your modeling/RC/experience (none is required) in the Introduction section and then use this "Show Off" thread right here to tell us more about how you modified and detailed that great Abrams.
(Yes, like you, I was impressed by Desertrat99's Abrams, too. I have lots of aftermarket parts stashed away by my NATO camouflage Abrams, waiting for me to get to the project. I am more familiar with WWII AFVs, but I want to learn more and do a contemporary MBT Abrams build a.s.a.p.)

Re: M1 Abrams usmc
Myself personally, I feel a true show off first posting is just as good an introduction. Although a tad more information on the actual model would be a bit more helpfulHerr Dr. Professor wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 10:02 pm Hello, USMC60mmThat is fine work on the Abrams! I'm just going to sit here and be jealous of the glorious scenery that you have to work with

Re: M1 Abrams usmc
Thank you all! As far as for details, it's a 1/16 HL model, I resprayed it using about 4 bottles of AK RC079 paint. Tamiya weathering. Cut off the last skirt as most USMC take them off. One of the gears is OD green, as its common for the Marines to use "old" parts or whatever is available cause our budget is so low lol. I Added a M240 (that's a must!) and 50. but I was looking for a mount that has gun sit lower near the chest level with the tank commander. I'll post a top pic of what I have for "gear"

Re: M1 Abrams usmc
I see that the rectangular panels on the turret are empty. I understand those to be areas for some kind of "friend or foe" panel. Am I all wrong? If not (fat chance), how does it work?
Re: M1 Abrams usmc
Combat Identification Panels. They are painted with a special paint that reflects IR causing a cold spot on the tank. The Abrams has the corrugated ones on the sides and rear of the turret and the flat type on the front of the turret. When it says, "this side off", it means the painted IR blocking side has been turned inward to protect it. The finish is kinda fragile and prone to damage when not in use. The front ones are held on by strips of velcro which is what the black angles in the corners are supposed to represent. It has velcro on both sides so it can be flipped "on" during combat ops and "off" when in garrison. The corrugated panels slide up and out of the holder and then they turn them around to face the painted side out during combat.Herr Dr. Professor wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 1:56 am I see that the rectangular panels on the turret are empty.
