Torro "open box" special, thoughts, opinions?

Post by MrChef »

So it's an open box special with potential MFU issues. I've been following it since it was listed for sale at $449. a couple of months ago.
https://www.motionrc.com/products/torro ... 2800105-ob

Of course I'm down for a new Tiger I project. This is quite a deal IMHO. Others please chime in.

It could be a simple fix or of course it could be more. Torro RC V3 Motherboard Tx/Rx sets with remote are out of stock on MotionRC. I am contemplating a hopefully easy swap Taigen Tx/Rx package https://www.taigentanks.com/collections ... 9961949351

Orrrr do a Heng Long Tk 7.1 swap. H'mmm decisions, decisions...

Any opinions? I have no problem doing the MFU swap, obviously it'd be easier if I used the V3 Taigen stuff but I'm gung-ho enough to do the TK setup.

Suggestions? Ideas? Try to convince me to Not do this... 8O :haha: :haha: :haha:

But for the price!!! Quite a platform to start a build with...

At that price, I’d take it. Swop in a TK7, and give it a proper elevation system, and alter he wiring so the recoil will work with it..

Oh hell yeah mate, I'll spend your money !
Whats the worst ??
You have to do a conversion to H/L V7.1 and we all learn too!
If Motion are out of stock, Im sure IMEX are not.

Its probably just the daughter board/plug set in the upper hull that splits power feed to the turret.
Or, another thing that we all as a caring village can assist in sorting :haha:

If it is a simple fix to get the Torro/Taigen V3 going, you win big. If you need to swap out to a HengLong 6.0, 7.0, or 7.1, you win big. The only hesitation I'd have is about a crippling lower hull break. Then you still win, just not quite as inexpensively.

Agreed. It doesn't state any structural damage in the description, just issues with the turret not turning and gun not elevating.

Open Box Details:
Missing Parts: None.
Damage/Defects: There are issues with the turret; it won't pivot, shoot or recoil, and the cannon won't move up or down. There is some damage to the wooden crate.
Builder Notes: Possible control board issue.

But good points HDP. I've never bought a tank this way before but the deal is a steal.

If it has the Taigen recoil unit and flash and you want to keep it that way then you will only need a Heng long TK7.0 not the 7.1. Get the 7.1 if you want to convert to servo recoil

Sounds like the main 8 pin connector is unplugged or damaged. Odds of all turret functions failing due to a Bad MFU (But everything else works?) Do the headlights work? Bow MG light up when used? Still drives?
