Nashorn 3d build

Post by AlwynTurner »

I decided to open up a new thread for this as its tedious scrolling through the old build stuff.
Here's the real thing
Image
And this is the first tank I built with styrene parts

The start of the chassis design, the Nashorn did not use the panzer 4 chassis and a new chassis was designed combining elements from the Panzer 3 and 4. This chassis was also used for the Hummel SPG.
Image
Image
The chassis was split in two for ease of printing

As can be seen the Nashorn chassis is longer than the Panzer 4 and has an extended front and rear.
Design of the body parts is progressing

More to do but doing it in cad is much easier than trying to cut styrene to the correct size and shape.

Alwyn—AND ALL 3D WIZARDS: over a year ago I made a tough decision to forego a chance for a free 3D printer. For my circumstances, I have found it to have been a good choice. NONETHELESS, I admire all the work you do and the fine, unique results. I read all your posts, appreciating your successes.

Easier for you! Still haven't put much time on my Creality printer. So cutting and fitting styrene card is still MY easier route.

Love the work/design, can't wait to see what the printers turn out!

After some heavy duty 3d printing we have progress
Starting with the track covers

Then the front glassis

The rear cockpit is fitted

The upper cockpit platform can then be fitted

The side and back panels will then be fitted

Awesome, you choose a very nice and rare tank to build!
Are designing also the gun by yourself?

If you publish the files, this would be an strong opponent for the other tankdesigners.

Thanks for the kind words, I already have the gun/mounting etc designed and have produced a number of models. The limiting factor with making the designs available was that it required cutting and assembling styrene sheet for a lot of the components and also modifying a panzer 4 chassis, so I decided to cut all that out and just design all the components including the chassis for 3d printing so that those interested could buy a set of files and build their own.

So far I am very pleased with how it's coming together.
