Soviet BT-5

Post by MikeN »

I have started building my BT-5.
A couple of weeks ago the delivery man staggered up my front path and left a heavy box of 4" diameter steel bar slices.
I converted most of this metal to swarf and was left with 16 road wheels. and the rear drive wheels.
I purchased some Acetal plastic plate to make the tyres.
also needed quite a few wheel bearings

When I make steel components like these I treat them with phosphoric acid to prevent rusting. This is why they are a dull grey. I quite like the finish. It also make an excellent key for paint.

Wow...looks great. I actually own a 9x21 metal lathe, but I doubt I'd be able to get all my wheels to look the same if I used it... :)

I will just silently watch in awe at your masterpiece, MikeN. I can only dream of such skills (and machine tools) as you demonstrate again and again.
