new project ,matorro tigerII, need advice
hi all ,im looking at getting a matorro tigerII, i will be adding hl pershing metal gearbox unit. metal tracks ,sprockets, idlers,i will also be fitting the idler tentioners, going to junk the electrics and add the old 3 card elmod set up, but i want to add a recoil unit so do i go for the hl recoil unit with the tamiya barrel or go for the tamia recoil unit, im also looking at adding the elmod infared card so i can battle with you in the future, your views are welcome

Personally i'd go for Tamiya. The HL recoil is rather weak if a little more realistic. Tamiya has plenty of scope for upgrade if you are fussed but is built like the proverbial brick outhouse so would outlast everything else in your tank.
Re: new project , need advice
swapping over to metal gearboxes is no problem either

Tricky, as RCCommand sells the mechanism, but its for a (Tamiya) Porsche turret - if you can get the recoil mech elsewhere then let me know
P.S. I just got my other KT back from getting RCCommands 3:1 steel gearboxes fitted by the Blitz - I can take pics of his handy work if that helps
P.P.S Wibbywobbly is the El-Mod Guru here. their stuff doesn't seem do difficult to fit but my unit keeps taking spurious hits - something that needs ironing out

I bought both the Tamiya recoil (KT/ Tiger) and KT 'fixed' barrel a few weeks ago from Welsh Dragon. They also sell a barrel extender piece for recoil version but I fabricated this myself to save a few £

Ex-Pat - The spurious hits 'might' be more shielding needed on the IR sensors. I haven't had a problem with mine (touch wood) but I have heard that daylight can affect the sensors (Darkith and Elmod) as it contains light in the IR spectrum. Mine are very exposed.
Ice - The Elmod battle system plugs straight into the 3 card set up. One mushroom connector, one IR emitter connector, and the tail end of the blue ribbon data cable. All three are supplied with the kit. You will need to make either a mushroom as per Tamiya, or hide the mushroom in a styrene crate or something (I hid them in the commanders cupola, and mg port, on the Tiger, and in a crate on the T34). The T34 was the best option as the entire tower is dropped straight through the roof of the turret. The Tiger required cutting off all the led's and sensors, attaching leads, and relocating them.
You can of course take the route that Tamiya did, and mount the socket in a hatch and just plug the mushroom in when you need it.
Cheers
Rob
PS - Looking forward to a battle.

Re: new project , need advice
ICE, i was looking at the same KT in ebay last week and impressed by the attached video. Then I realised the video is showing a heavily modified KT that was "BASED" on the Matorro KT but now has Elmod, custom smoke unit, upgraded speakers etc.... a bit missleading of the seller.
Maybe if it was £40 cheaper it'd be worth it.
