Howdy

Post by Zgunbear »

I have always been interested in armor. When I was little my dad read me Haunted Tank comic books, when other dads were reading nurse rhymes to their kids. Years later I learned he drove an Ontos in the USMC in the 1960's. Then just before he passed in 2015 he told me he actually deployed to Vietnam. I have built and collected model tanks for years. I just got my first radio control tank a Heng Long T-34/85. Unless you count the Radio Shack Sherman I had back in the 1980's. I wore out 3 sets of tracks and finally burned out the motors. Then tonight I was surfing and found that Takom makes a 1/16 M50 Ontos, it would be nice to build one in r/c in honor of my dad. I found the forum and it looks like it will be a good source of information. Any other 1/16 scale rc tankers in the middle Tennesee area?

Welcome aboard Zgunbear, My older brother (who will be away from contact for a couple weeks) also loves the Ontos. Both he and dad were USMC and served in Viet Nam (dad, Korea too). Lots of good info to find on this forum and answers if you need 'em.

And I used to read my brothers copies of Haunted Tank!

Welcome to the forum Zgunbear from New York.

Ahhhh another Radio-Shack Sherman guy, very nice  I had mine as well,it was the early big one before they added the red light. Loads of fun in the yard. Soon after was about the time I built my Tamiya Frog.

Hello and welcome from Argyll and Bute, in the West Coast of Scotland. Never seen one of those. Had to look it up. Looks like something from Warhammer.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Haunted Tank, I've never heard of that comic. Did a quick search and a cool backstory. I'll have to find a couple to read!

Hello and welcome to the forum Zgunbear

It would appear from your introduction that you'll be a good fit here, hopefully you'll stick around and realise your M50 Ontos goal

Oh, and a sense of humour, although it isn't necessary, it may be a benefit with some of the jokers we have here

Hello,Zgunbear. Indeed, the USMC used the six-barreled "rifle" (more like a tracked rocket rifle) Ontos in 'Nam. (Ontos is Greek for "being"). I have the new 1/16 kit, and certainly it occurred to me that it would, indeed, be an interesting RC conversion. Go for it!
