New member and it's all Steve's fault.

Post by Kennethcampbell »

Hello everyone,
My name is Kenny, I’ll be 62 in September and I’m into modelling and RC buggies/cars and have just got a brocken HengLong Tiger 1. I was hoping to restore it back to working order and give her a decent spray job but have found to much damage so will have to get a new Tiger 1. I don’t mind as I can just make her a static model with plenty of glue 😉😅🤣
I live in a small town in Hampshire called Gosport right next door to Portsmouth but never joined the Royal Navy… instead I joined the RAF… cushier number 🤪 anyway I got my first RC kit at the age of 16 with my first ever pay packet, it was the Tamiya SandScorcher. I’ve been modelling kits from the age of 7 or 8 gave it up when I joined up but seven years ago got back into modelling and especially RC and now have s few buggy’s and cars. I wanted to get an RC Tiger to join my growing fleet of Tiger 1 kits as I love this particular vehicle. I’d like to say it’s for the engineering and technology nothing else that I love about these Tigers so I’m not into them for any other reason !!! I’d also like to thank a friend on eBay who suggested I join your group BUT I have to say I’ve never been on a site like this before so please forgive my utter ignorance 😔😔😔 it’s nothing personal I’m just a technophobe 🥴 I fear technology like the plague as I don’t understand it. I’ve been a precision engineer all my life and prefer working with my hands as my brains not that great 🤣 anyway I am honoured to be here with you chaps and I hope I can help AND be helped in this wonderful hobby of ours.
Thanks very much for accepting me and reading this… I know I have a tendency to waffle on a bit so please forgive me I just get nervous 😅🥴🤣

Kindest regards to you all,

Kenny

Welcome Kenny! Thanks for great intro, but you've tagged onto the intro post from Ron. I'd suggest you start a new intro post for yourself. You can just cut and paste what you've typed above into your new post.
You crazy tiger owners! ;D

Welcome, Kennethcampbell! I enjoyed your introduction. If you are running RC vehicles, you can't be quite so technophobic. It's probably just these confounded newfangled computer thingies that give your trouble. :D Have you considered which Tiger I to get: HengLong, Taigen, Mato? My advice is to go for the mid-range: not the expensive Mato or the most inexpensive HengLong, but a Henglong with metal upgrades for its great low speed action and flexible control choices and not so accurate sound or a Taigen (metal upgrades are standard) with its not-as-sophisticated control and great sound. Questions? Ask away!

I agree ColemanCollector that Mr. Campbell deserves an introductory thread of his own. I wonder if Jimster, Bix, or Kaczor or Model Builder 4 can help by moving the relevant parts of this thread.

Hi Kenny, Welcome to the Forum,
The Docs suggestion is a valid one but Heng Long have the advantage in electronics,
Might I suggest a Heng Long Tiger 1 and a Taigen Metal Hull, That way you can transfer the Heng Long control board into the Metal Hull and you have gained a quick release system as well.
Most parts of the Heng Long and the Taigen Tigers are interchangeable. There are more upgrades for the Tiger 1 than for any other 1/16 r/c Tank, Your first port of call should be
www.forgebeartanks.com
Good to know you are willing to help because we always need it but of course we offer help as well,
Enjoy this place and remember most of the answers are somewhere in the menu if you only look around.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Welcome along Mr Campbell, I reckon the white Naval outfit might have made your ass look big and be a hassle to keep clean :haha: I prefer the green base myself, then Blue, not the Whites!!
Bloody Navy look like a bunch of Test Cricketers ;)

Great to have you along Sir, fear not the Tech side of the hanger, theres plenty here that can sort that out when or if required mate
