A cannon shot from the San Francisco Bay Area

Post by Aurelius »

Reading a few posts here, it seem like the admins and veteran tankers would like for newbies to post in the introductions section first. Happy to oblige, ... My name is Jay and I live in Mountain View, California (Bay Area). I teach electrical engineering to undergrad and grad students, and enjoy several hobbies such as mountain biking, flying (real) aircraft, scuba diving, studying mathematics, and most importantly, ... spending time with my small son. I recently purchased a Toucan Hobby Heng Long M1A2 Abrams for him and have slowly converted it to doing something I can't find anyone else doing online (at least so far), which is to enable BB firing while allowing the cannon to smoke at the same time (while still allowing 360 deg rotation and barrel recoil). (Although, I am sure that would be an easy job for the veterans and masters in this forum :) ) We will also be undertaking an ambitious project to give our Abrams full artificial intelligence, ... id est, .. the ability for our Abrams to enter an official certified IR tank battle and "hunt" other tanks without any human control (while hopefully avoiding the IR fire of other human controlled tanks). It won't be easy to essentially put Tesla's Autopilot (ADAS) system in a small RC tank, ... but if we fail, .. we plan to do so spectacularly! Thought I would sign up to learn from those who know far more about RC tanking than I do, and happy to meet everyone! - J

Welcome to the forum Jay. It's nice to get to know new members and also a good way to weed out the spam and bots.

Welcome Jay, from the West Coast of Scotland. There the Loch glisten, in the near 365 days of sunshine.

I’ve a feeling, with what you have said, you are waaaaay ahead of me, and that you will fit right in.

Thank for the welcome1 We were fortunate to get BB firing + cannon smoke + barrel recoil + 360 degree rotation working (after a pain in the butt modding process):

Now the hard part comes, ... getting a truly artificially intelligent Abrams that can kill against experienced tankers without being killed first.

I am actually of Scottish descent. My ancestors settled in Virginia in the 1710s after a failed Jacobite Rebellion. I think some of them first came over as indentured servants on a five year contract. My son and I toured Scotland two years ago and had unbelievable weather. We visited both the Inner and Outer Hebrides and had nothing but perfectly clear skies for six straight days. We asked the locals in Portree how often that happened, and they said, "About one occurrence every three years for three days straight," ... LOL.

I was assigned to read this book by Marcus Aurelius in Honors English as a high school student entitled, Meditations. I liked his ideas of just rule and good governance, and my family jokingly adopted it as my nickname.

One questions why if you are enthused by Good Governance and Just Rule are you still resident in the USA :haha: :haha:
Sorry first rule of RCTW is we don't do politics..
I have a still in its box Heng Long Abrams, after the 2 Centurions are finished I might just start on it stealing all the good ideas accrued on the Forum from the likes of people such as you :haha:
Take care.

Hello and welcome to the forum Aurelius

As jarndice stated, and therefore should know better than to lure you unwittingly into a trap, here at RCTW, we have zero tolerance for political opinions. And that is the reason for yours disappearing.

As forum moderators, we have access to a section full of archived "innocent" political opinions, that blew up and caused forum disrupting chaos. We keep them as a reminder, and evidence should anyone complain and act the innocent.

As a team, we don't care how many political opinions members have, we are happy that member have their own political opinions, we just don't want to hear/see them here on RCTW. Because, sadly, some people have the idea that their political opinions are more important than the cohesion of this forum, and we as a team, always put the forum first.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not picking on you, and we're not that draconian etc, I'm just explaining the reasoning behind your disappearing post.
