StuG IIIG?

Post by Mithras »

1. How is the HL version?

2. Is there presently a source for Schurzen?

3. Looking for recommendations as per decals. I’d prefer not to make my own if I can avoid that. Plan is for a Hungarian StuG.

1. As a first model, the HL Stug is fine.
2. Plastic Schurzen are available but they are quite delicate (especially the handles). Most people make them out of sheet metal.
3. As for Hungarian decals, they are not available on the market. But making your own mask with numbers is not complicated. Upload a photo of the example you are interested in.

Hi, Kaczor. Thanks for answering my questions!

My main concern is the Honved insignia. I’ve got them in 15mm, 28mm, and somewhere in 1/35, but I’ve not been satisfied with my efforts to freehand them. I’ll see if I can dig up a reference.

I'd argue its one of H/Ls best offerings and certainly a great starter for the most produced subject AFV of Germany WW2.

Agree with Mr Kaczor that the schurzen are fragile in plastic, much better in brass but still present a hassle for handling.

The Hungarian versions are also ones I have an eye on. The markings I would freehand, same as they would have done then I assume.

I know you are a keen modeller - how about buying an AHHQ Stug and adding as many parts as you can to the HL Stug?

There is also Taigen Stug III. It have superior metal suspension but Schurzen holders are made of brittle plastic.

Yeah, that will be using their own made schurzen kit I reckon.
Very accurate but fragile to handle. best to use the plastic as a template for brass I feel.

Rad of this parish does custom stencils. I had a set done for my Challenger.

'730' with Saukopf and white wash remnants is a cool version.
