Hello From Lincolnshire!

Post by Finius »

Hello everyone!

Total newbie here, based in Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

I'm a long-time miniature-wargamer seeking something a bit different. My only notable RC experience was just shy of 16 years ago, when I foolishly spent an exorbitant amount of money on a helicopter, only to learn very quickly that what goes up must come down, and that perhaps the magic of powered flight wasn't for me.

I visited East Kirkby Aviation Centre on Monday with some friends, got chatting with the lovely people from the Grantham Light Armoured Division, took myself home to enter into negotiations with the wife and my HL Chally 2 arrived today!

I've got a list as long as my arm of things I'd like to do to/with it and just as many questions!

Thanks for having me!

I assure you, Finius, even if one must "enter into negotiations with the wife," it's worthwhile. For there is fun to be had with both! Let us know what you are hoping to do with the Challenger 2. And dive in with the questions. wishing you love and fun,

Hello and welcome from Argyll and Bute. Love my Challenger 2, but it is a love/hate relationship, as it is two steps forward and three backward. Entering negotiations with SWMBO, for a second Challenger. We need photos of your models. Not compulsory, however we are nosy.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada!
Your helicopter experience is why RC tanks are perfect for me--although I still manage to drive into things. The challenger is great looking tank, pictures please!

Ask and ye shall receive!

I’ve uploaded a few examples of bits I’ve done over the past year or two, I’ve an eclectic mix of historic, fantasy, sci-fi and everything in between, in a mix of scales, mostly for specific wargames! Need to resize some of the photos to get them to upload, but this should at least show off some of what I’ve been working on!

What is it that makes you say you have a love.hate thing going on with your Challenger?

You've got some nice work there. Can't wait to see how your first RC tank comes out.

The fantasy figures do allow for some wilder colours than most AFVs. It's good to see some Abrams in camouflage; most Abrams models are done in desert camouflage, but I actually have an older HengLong 1/16 one in Nato camouflage.

It keeps breaking. It just seem to be a thing with Challengers. I have built a couple of 1/35 model Challengers and they did not go together as they should. The 1/16 has just been full of annoying faults, like snapping off parts of the suspension, then last run wiring got caught in the tracks.
I am not decrying the model, as most of the problems have been down to me being Kack handed and incompetent. But I have learned a lot over the three 1/16 tanks I have attempted.

You have some beautifully painted and built models. I would never have the skill or patience to paint those Warhammer models.
