BSU info

Post by wibblywobbly »

I have just asked the BSU guy what the cost of the units is etc

****

The price for a BSU IA board is 38,- € + 6,55 € for postage (insured 100 €) +
1,50 for wrapping.

Due to several request the delivery could take currently up to 4 weeks.Sorry
for that.

Best regards

Helge

****

That is just under £40 inc postage, but as he says there is a 4 week delay. Still, it's a cheap way to get Tamiya compatibility on a HL tank, and it's almost plug and play (eg no pcb to solder together).

If anyone has one can they post a review? I would love to know how it compares to a Darkith unit, which has adjustable parameters for light, medium, heavy tank, and a few other bells and whistles as well, and which also comes with a proper IR tower.

Cheers

Hi Rob It is a cheap way to convert a Heng Long to Tamiya ,there are good parts about this system but there is also drawbacks ,First the good points Price ,also if all tanks are fitted with this yes you can fit it to tamiya and El-mod it has friend or foe setting, which means you can set your tanks to sides and with this you cant shoot you side,Drawbacks are if fitted to a standard heng long it does the silly dance when killed not sure about setting for heavy tanks  .

Hi Here is the PDF file that shows how to wire it .As far as I know if its used with the Rx18 board it uses the settings of the board so cant alter it for different tanks.

It looks like the manual has changed somewhat, probably because that one is the draft version.

The updated one refers to the 'dance' and the 'recoil'.

Shame about the waiting time of 4 weeks...though it is tempting.

Hi Looks like its been updated ,not very good for heavy tanks only 5 hits, but can get rid of the dance.also could be used for gun positions.

Does the HL Rx18 slow the tank down as it takes hits?

I have the RX18 battle system in the Jagdpanther. It is ok as a basic toy like battle system, but it is very basic. Each time the tank is hit the tank lurches, and when it dies it dances. You also get the horrible recoil jerk. The big drawback is that it isn't Tamiya compatible for taking hits.

The gun/emitter seems to be at the lower end of the IR range, so if the receiving tank sensor is wide band it will detect an HL gun shot. My Elmod does take a hit up to 10ft.

The HL IR mushroom contains one IR sensor. Nothing else. Shots from all directions are reflected down onto the sensor via a reflector. The processing circuits are built into the RX18. In theory could get hold of a sensor and make your own HL mushroom with no technical knowledge.

Darkith has mentioned that there appears to be no reason why the sensor fitted to his battle units should not function in the HL mushroom, and make it Tamiya compatible. If I could get hold of a sensor cheaply I would try it, but there is nowhere locally that sells them and the web dealers want silly money for postage.

If that worked then fitting an upgraded IR emitter with a suitable resistor and a focusing tube would solve the 10ft range issue.

At the moment, my money is still on the Darkith unit, it does what it says on the tin, and does it very well. The kits are cheap and easy to make. You can configure the tank via the joystick, it has three tank weights, it provides inertia braking, it can disable spinning, and it can disable the recoil jerk. It will all run on a standard HL tx too.

Hi Rob you can use these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2253
to replace the heng long  emitter straight swap no need for any resistors .these can be used http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Optoelectronics/Infrared-Devices/Infrared-photo-module-38kHz/77753
but you have to check the pins down load the pdf file and check ,these are similar to darkiths but the pins are different I have used them with the dbu and they work fine but had to cross the wires over

Does the alternative sensor definately detect Tamiya hits? I already have an emitter. This could be a cheap fix! Cheers!! ;)
