Air filter hoses

Post by Albert »

I have a 1/16 Taigen Tiger 1 that I'm renovating. I've recently purchased the excellent V3 motherboard and sound card from the also excellent Forgebear Tanks, ( I recommend both). I see that there are overseas suppliers of textured hoses which I would like, to replace the nasty tubing. So, my question is does anyone know of a UK supplier? Failing that, can anyone suggest a way of making them. I tried using a textured Duck tape, but that wasn't great. Also, there is one of the hose end caps missing, if anyone has one knocking about, I'd happily pay any cost incurred.

Your positive remarks concerning Dave & Julie @ www.forgebeartanks.com will I am sure be bolstered even more in the knowledge that they have in stock---
Aber Brass PE 16 031 Tiger 1 Ausf E Feifal Air Cleaners @ £16.99.
A lot of people think the wording refers to the actual air cleaners BUT they are actually 4 sheets of Photo Etch each one wraps around one of the 4 Taigen rubber pipes,
As you wrap the sheet around the pipe it assumes the 12 sides of the original pipe as found on the real thing,
A light application of superglue along the seam completes the job, Of course solder is an alternative.
The end caps that are included are a waste of time in my opinion and can be discarded.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Thanks very much. My eyes just skipped over those because I was looking for actual tubes. I may get those, but given that I have to move the tubes every time I charge the battery, I wonder if cloth or rubber would be preferable.

Albert they are so tight around the tube (If properly fitted) that moving the tube is no different from before,
Certainly my Heng Long/Torro/Taigen Tiger 1 earlies have never given a problem and they all have this very simple mod.
I have tried cloth instead of PE and it was totally inaccurate lacking the actual section shape of the original whereas the Aber fix looks right and in no way interferes in the opening and closing of the Tanks body.

Another option to remove the tubes is a little modification using magnets on the air filters and tubes as shown in these pictures, hope this helps

It is worth knowing that the Feifal Air Cleaner system was only fitted between November 1942 and October 1943, Running a Tiger 1 early without those filters and pipes is absolutely as accurate as running with them.
They were initially fitted because of the high dust/sand levels in North Africa hence the dates of the Tiger 1 in that theatre of operation.
They were to be found on Tigers in Russia in the early days of Operation Barbarossa but they were removed as Autumn arrived.

For example one of the first 7 Tigers ever built. No air cleaners to worry about.

That's interesting, Jarndice! What is your source on that information? I don't doubt you; I just want to see if I completely missed it in my books on the Tiger I.

Once again I need to throw the 'Bullshit flag':
They were to be found on Tigers in Russia in the early days of Operation Barbarossa but they were removed as Autumn arrived.
Operation Barbarossa is generally accepted to run from 22 June 1941 to 7 January 1942 according to the internet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Barbarossa
(yes I am linking wikipedia, but scroll down for the veritable wall of references)

The Tiger 1 started production in August 1942: https://tankmuseum.org/article/tiger-combat-debut/

please stop speading nonsense, it does not help anyone.
Operation Zitadelle yes, Barbarrosa, No
