Taigen Jagdtiger recoil and elevation problem

Post by 761st »

Bit of a challenge for me. Stock Torro Jagdtiger. Examined the recoil unit and I see the recoil gear will stop before hitting the limit switch. Above and on the gear is raised "cog." Is it possible this could be part of the problem?

At least a decade ago, I ran into the recoil problem with a Torro KV-2, but I do not recall any physical interference; rather, it was a matter of re-adjusting the limit switch. First, if someone else has had the same problem and knows of the "cog" thingie, I hope you get pronto help.

However, if not, let me see what I can come up with if I can "see inside" (so to speak) your Jagdtiger and compare to one of mine.

try this it may help reset it
hold the barrel gently
push the fire stick up
when the barrel wants to move let it go it should make a whirring noise and reset

Thank you. I had to take some time off from tanks. Here's a photo.

looks like the big cog is 180 degrees out. The yellow wire on the microswitch is connected to the earth on the motor. is the red wire coming from the micro switch connected to an earth? as that should give it the connection to reset if it is it could be that its not got a good connection

Hello, indeed, the big red wire is to be connected at least from the battery after the switch, have you tried by removing the spring, to see if everything slides well manually? Also check if the part below comes to activate the switch, it seems to me that it is at the end of the recoil races, has it ever worked? mechanically, nothing blocks (sliding of the barrel?)

Following how the wires were connected (between the two motors) this is the configuration I am working with. Unit on the left was a replacement for unit on the right which did not work. Unit on the left (replacement) is used and was sent by supplier as is. It actually was super glued together from the supplier. The motors don't even match. A lot of speculation of what is correct based on a super-glued replacement and an original bad unit. Time to get Taigen to help out. Forgebear. Thanks. I tried that. Now the barrel will elevate on toggle while using the fire position AND evevate position. No recoil at all. Hahhahahaha! Time for a beer. Or two. Thanks guys.

:D
in view of the explanations and after proofreading, of our friend's post? it seems that the recoil is running? partially, but the wheel does not go all the way around and therefore does not reach the switch? Would it be more of a mechanical problem? indeed it is also necessary to connect the blue wire as on the photos of 761st, but it is not that which prevents the complete rotation? check that the endless screw on the axis of the motor, does not turn in a vacuum, on the axis? and that nothing mechanically forces

Thanks Jofaur. The endless gear does work until the cog jams. I am thinking it is odd that both unit's jam. That said, the replacement was not a new unit so there are challenges to sourcing the problem. Maybe it's time to get a new unit.
