HL T-72 ERA

Post by Timbo68 »

I've been tinkering with my HL 3939 T-72 by adding blue and yellow patches, and upgrading the track adjusters, and came across an ERA version on a few sites. This doesn't yet appear in the inventory of European/US vendors as far as I can see. It has reactive armour blocks, and I've acquired an accessory set with these blocks. Thing is - although I can eventually figure out where these might fit, it would be easier if I had the instructions! It may be that the upper deck/turret are substantially different from the original 3939 however. Has anyone come across this yet?

Not that late, by the look of it - but - useful info, thanks.

No pics yet - I'm still trying to figure out what's possible. There's surprisingly little room in the HL T-72 (considering how much I managed to cram into my Hooben T-55...). I have a dual current motor/gearbox from another project which I want to fit - but the exhaust smoker (I still like them) sits between the existing gearboxes, so no room with the new motor. The existing BB system takes up most of the room under the turret, so that will have to change. I've a Henntec idler tensioner (I have all-metal running gear), but removing the existing system (the later reinforced one, which is actually not too bad) will be major surgery, so I hope I get that right. Then it's mostly cosmetic, fitting the ERA blocks. I hope I can arrange them from the available pics, which will require the drilling of some holes and then some weathering to match what is already there. If (and it's a big if!) I get all that done, I'll happily post a few snaps...

I run mine with the stock 6.0 idler adjust and that things rock solid, you might be better off leaving it as is with the amount of material you need to move

Thanks -the more I look at it, the more I think you're right - the later reinforced hull corners with the metal adjuster seem to be well designed, and the setup has been fine up until now. If it ain't broke....

I've now finished adding ERA blocs to my old T-72, and added comments and pics on this thread in the News and Announcements/Hobby News section...
