Tips on what to coat tank in to protect paint work
Hi I have several tanks HL and Tamiya . Id like to know the best way to seal them if thats the correct word . I use Tamiya paints as a rule . I just want to know whats best to spray over the final paint to protect it .

Andy you could use johnsons Klear which is a floor polish , quite a large number of people do, this does give your model a gloss finish but after you have finished weathering it , you will not see any gloss, trust me. it will as with any covering ,dull your colours down, but you will find with filters etc, your model will take on this natural look..................
also if you wish to use decals, this is the way to go as it stops the silvering that can happen.........

Also would like to say only use this with an airbrush. if you only want to apply for decals then sure you could use a brush in that area of the tank and as i said the weathering etc will hide the gloss...
if i can be of further help just pm me mate and good luck..

Raven, When you say you found some W&N AMV, do you mean you have some, or you found a link where you can buy it ? Never tried it my self, but if you have some, the easiest way is to try on some old model or a scrap piece of styrene first. I have used Ronseals Matt varnish and its very good. Also it goes a long way. Sax has just used it and is well pleased with the results. Check it out, its Ozs, excellent thread/post.raven wrote: hi

W&N varnish is OK i have used them before there are 4 or 5 different types some will leave a type wax finish on top of the paintwork to protect the underlying colors, i used them on a model i did for a guy and ended up binning the kit and buying another one myself to replace the one i screwed up, so make sure you get the right one unfortunately its hard to tell which is the one to use until its too late, it was because of the screw up i now use ronseal.
cheers oz.
